Is there anybody out there related to them? I know there were a few Mcdonald families on Coll so I've hit a brick wall.
My father in law's father - George Macdonald (deceased) came from Coll, born 1916. George and some brothers and sisters moved to Fife, but I'm not sure when, some of them married in Fife. Their father was John Macdonald married to Maggie McLachlan in 1903 (she was a school teacher apparently). John spent some time in Angus and was previously married to a Jane McIntosh there, in 1886.
So far I've managed to find out John's parents were Allan Macdonald and Mary McKinnon, they married in 1856.
Allan's parents were Donald Macdonald and Margaret McLean, and this is where I'm now at a loss. Donald was born 1802 to Alexander Macdonald and Margaret McDougall but now I'm struggling to find out who Alexander's parents were.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I am sure that Coll comes under Argyll and I am also sure that I have seen those names whilst researching my own. Or maybe it is just a coincidence.
If Scotlandspeople have not given up their secrets and LDS does not help, try Argyll Family History, specifying the isle naturally and come back if you do not find anything or need some pointers and either I will have a look at my records I have or someone else may be able to give you more pointers.
My Macdonalds and Campbells are mostly in Harris, or in Campbelltown Argyll

Hi, I have just started looking into my family tree this week and found a match with you.
My granmother was Mary Mcdonald from coll and her parents were John Mcdonald and Maggie McLachlan. Married 13th Feb 1903
I got this info from my Granmother's marriage certificate my parents have.
Siblings of my Granmother were, Margaret, Georgie and Flora
I went on holiday to Georgie's in Fife a few times when I younger.
I will ask my Father George Barker for more info.
If you would like to chat and exchange family details that would be fantastic.
