Title: Canadian Women's Hostel, Drummond St, Montreal
Post by: LittleLondoner on Saturday 17 July 10 19:12 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to find what happened to my Nan's sister who emigrated in the 30's with the address of destination being 'Canadian Women's Hostel, 1155 Drummond St, Montreal'. She was a domestic. Does anyone know what this place was? Or where I could find any records to find out where she went from there?
I'm failing so far to find any trace of her after that...we think she may have married a man named Fritz, but we don't know if that was his first name or surname even?
Her name was Constance Evelyn Cowan Begg b abt 1909

Any help most gratefully received!

Nice find Sandra.

She is in Montreal in 1935 Voters' Lists, living at 24 Edgehill Road, Westmount, a table maid. This may have been a rooming house.

Hi, I had a similar query,  my relative was sent to Canada to the Canadian woman's hostel, because she had got pregnant not married,. The Catholic Church sent her to this place, her name was changed and she was trained as a domestic there is an article you should Google " sisters of service of Canada "
Best wishes Paul
