Title: Old Dock Road, Grimsby COMPLETED, THANK YOU
Post by: JDB307 on Sunday 25 July 10 15:22 BST (UK)
Hello All,

In the 1901 Census I've got William Lofas (1882-1952) a platelayer living at 13 Old Dock Road, Grimsby.  The problem is that I have been unable to locate Old Dock Road on any of the old or modern maps that I have, including the 1906 maps from Alan Godfrey.  Can anyone help me to place the Old Dock Road, please?

Jack

There appears to be South Parade at one end and Corporation Road at the other if thats any help.Looking at the enumerators book 1891 I wonder if it was called Alexandra Dock Road before.

Isobelruss,

Thanks for that.  Are you saying that Old Dock Road is now Alexandra Road?

Go on Lincolnshire boards and look for GeoffE hes the expert on Lincs.
Alexandra Road is certainly a lot longer in 1911 and Old Dock Road has no result when you search,so I wonder if that is something to do with it.

It's possible to find it (with great difficulty) at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html on the 1889/1890 1:2500 map

It seems to have been pretty much where Alexandra Road is (as Isobelruss has suggested)

Of course, the Old Dock was renamed Alexandra Dock at some point http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Marsh

Of course, the Grimsby expert is Floss :)

Thanks Geoff-E.  You're quite right about the old maps.  I've scrolled through the names on the board and cannot see a Floss.  How do I contact her/him please?

Jack

Hi

Thanks Geoff, Have sent PM to Jack.  You were correct Isobelruss, Old Dock Road did change to Alexandra Road sometime between 1901 and 1908.
