Title: Alexander Cordell
Post by: chepstowgirl on Wednesday 25 August 10 08:36 BST (UK)
Whilst in the Abergavenny area, researching my family, I went to Llanfoist. I understood that Alexander Cordell, the novelist, was buried there. I went to St Faith's church and strolled around the graveyard but I didnt find his grave.

I did find the monument to Crawshay Bailey, the great ironmaster who inevitably 'owned' my ancestors who worked in the Blaenavon and Nantyglo ironworks.

Does anyone know if Alexander himself is actually buried at Llanfoist? If so, where? All the literature on the internet seems to indicate that he is, but the history of the church, which was posted on the noticeboard in the church porch, only mentioned Bailey.

Be grateful for any insight on this.

Thank you  ;D

did you look for him only under Cordell or under his real name George Alexander Graber?

Oh Osprey, I was looking for Cordell!  :o

Maybe I will go back and have another look for his real name. Thank you very much for that! You're a star!

Hi, This thread may be a little cold but......Was also searching for the final resting place of Alexander Cordell. Looked, like many others, at the graves at St. Faiths Llanfoist but located the grave (in the name of Alexander Cordell) in the Abergavenny Municipal Cemetery-also known as the New Cemetery.
The gravestone is in the form of an open book in light red Italian marble.
Hope this helps?

Thank you Deanpip, that explains why I couldn't find it - I was looking in the wrong place! Thank you for sharing this info.

And thank you to Sarah for sorting out the communication issue!
