Title: KELLY of Laois
Post by: daisynook on Sunday 05 September 10 12:45 BST (UK)
My great-grandmother Sarah Kelly was born in Queens County in 1853 and married in Manchester in 1873.  That's all I know about her.  I can't get a birth certificate as there are many Sarah Kelly's and I don't know which one she is and I would like to find out when she came to England.

Any ideas?

There are no birth certs before 1864 when civil registration started. You need to check for parish records to locate earlier details - see  : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

Your first step would be to check the marriage cert for details of Sarah's father... his name and occupation should be included.

Wondering if the McMullen you list with Kelly is also from Co. Laois?  Ancestors were from there and I have autosomal matches with Kelly.

Afraid not, the McMullen side of the family originated in Belfast
