I am at the labs.familysearch.org and after doing a search, I clicked on a particular promising entry. After notating the film, vol, etc information ... there's a link to search the collection ... then you can choose the digital folder. A viewer comes up on the next screen stating loading image ... but nothing ever happens. I've tried it on several entries.
Has anyone been able to view these images yet? Or it is just me?
-
Can you explain what information you searched for to get to the stage of clicking on the link? (not all parts of the LDS Pilot Search site have images available)
-
http://www.rootschat.com/links/09v8/ has some Eyres.

Hi Barbara
I tried 1 entry and it opens just fine for me. It does say you need Adobe reader which is easy to download if you don't have it.

Oh! are we talking about the same thing here??
The one I tried was
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/
not the Family Search Pilot site
-
Think we need to wait for Barbara to give us more details so that we can answer her question.
-
Sorry for the delay - been immersed in entry new genealogy information into my website and the power was out for a bit this morning.
Yes, on the labs.familysearch.org website.
I was doing a search for Josephine Neary. She died in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1995. I think she was born roughly 1900-1915 - supposedly my grandfather's first cousin ... just trying to figure out how and begin the digging into the Neary family beginning with her.
I do have Adobe (updated version). I received no error messages at all. It just "hangs" on "Loading Image ...".
I did search for random name combinations and tried the same thing ... and got the same results - no images load. So, it did not matter the person, I couldn't get any digital folder images to show.
I thought it was my internet connection, but I was able to get around the internet with no problems, even heavily scripted sites. Same thing today.
*shrugs* It just don't like me. hehehe
SO, what type of information are on the digital folder images?????? Worth me worrying about?
Thanks for everyone's responses and help!

http://www.rootschat.com/links/09v8/ has some Eyres.
Thanks, hallmark - but none of those Eyres are mine - already been through it. =)

I am being told there is a problem with the security certficate of this website, although I haven't had problems before????
This is not the pilot site, is it? It is the updated familysearch??
Or this? http://beta.familysearch.org/
-
both labs. and beta. are familysearch - they just keep moving things around, testing, etc ... hard to keep track of what is what.
I don't see any certificate errors, but am using FireFox (rarely use Internet Explorer).
-
Not sure exactly what your problem is here.

I also use Firefox and have no problem on LDS Pilot site. Clicking on the link to "About this Collection" brings up a separate tab with general information- no where on that new page does it give an option to view actual images.
-
Ok, I did not notice this before, but after going to labs.familysearch.org and clicking on the search link ... it takes you to beta.familysearch.org.
Josephine Neary
Death: 1995 Ireland
Click on Josephine Mary Neary
births: Jan-Mar 1926 Kilkenny
On the new page, just under the large square: "Image is not available online"
there is the link: Search This collection.
Note the Digital Folder Number : 4195645
So, I click on the Search this collection link ... scroll to the above number ... click on it ... new screen is the viewer ... but only says Loading IMage and that is it - nothing ever happens.
And this is on ANY search result - even random names I make up ...
It almost makes me think they haven't loaded ANY images. But then they shouldn't have added (or made live) those links until they did.
:-\

This is the link for the LDS Beta site- http://beta.familysearch.org/
I tried searching for your Josephine Neary there but didn't get the entry you seem to find.
-
Ah well. Never mind. :-[

Good question Barbara.
I'm not an expert on these matters but as far as I know, a Beta site is one that is currently under test in a 'real world' environment. Usually the people running a Beta test will ask for feedback on which functions are working and welcome and which parts of the program are not working or not needed.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the LDS site will have an image-view link to Ancestry.com on a ppv basis.
That's probably why you can't currently view the images.

Looks like they have only done the images to 1958... (See 2)... blank screen for image, so they might have the image but like it says, "Not Online"
-
Looks like it a case of "So Neary, yet so far... " but they could put them online at some stage, the images must be in the folder, it's just when they'll permit them to be viewed!
-
If, and when, the image does appear it will probably be a scan of the page in the index and not the actual certificate.
-
The images were available when the BMD index went live at first. The image shown was the relevant page from the Index book.

Hi All,
I get exactly the same issues as Barbara. I am using a Mac, and tried viewing the image in both Safari and Firefox.

Does this site actually show you the records! ;D They seem to have added in new records that i never seen before!
-
Thank you everyone! Glad I'm not the only one who was experiencing the forever "Image Loading" thing. whew! Really, I'm sane ... well, most of the time! hehehe
So, even if I was able to view the digital folder image, it would not have been anything of real use ... an image of the page telling you where to look for the actual document ... ummm, whooppee. :-\ Or am I missing something?
I went to our local LDS place and they had NOTHING ... EVERYTHING would have had to be shipped in from Utah for me to view any microfiche. I don't know why they are even open if they have no copies of microfiche or whatever .... or is that standard? *shrugs*

I think the clue is "Image not available on line".
This is a beta site under development. They have posted many records and have made the images available for some of the records. I read in one place that they plan on making all the images available as the site matures. I have retrieved many documents from the beta site for digital folders that have been posted live, and they are the actual license, certificate, etc. not the index. You might try consulting the link below for a list of familysearch record collections. Note the collections with a camera have the digital images online. You might try some of them to see what is available.

So they will actually show you the actual records interesting. When will they be available for the ireland records?

Thanks so much for the additional information. It certainly eases my mind that me and my computer were doing nothing wrong. I just felt like I was missing out or something.
That link to the lists is extremely helpful!
