Hi
I'm having trouble finding verification on William Wilson. According to Canadian Census 1861, he was b abt 1820, B'ness, Scotland. Family members have b. 26 Nov 1820. He m. Catherine Robertson in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada (from family). I found him in 1841 Scotland Census. The address was Jinkabout Mills. Are there any parish records to view. The Canadian Census list his religion as Methodist.
I hope someone can help.

Hi Pearlsing,
The only problem with the IGI is the church do not recognise death so they list very few deaths.
I think the only option is to use the pay as you view site scotlandspeople,
cheers,
Billy.

Did you see the marriage for the couple: July 23 1811, Bo'Ness, West Lothian? Hope that you do have the money one day to complete your tree...
-
Hi
No I didn't. Could you tell me what is was?
thanks

That was the marriage date for William Wilson/Julia Smith
Sorry I hit post by mistake I guess as I was adding more... meant to put IGI as well...Other Wilson marriages in same batch file around same decade David, James, Alexander, Henry, Thomas & Robert. These couples are also parents in the same batch file as some of the children. Some might one day connect as siblings of William senior's
Between marriage 1811 and christening 1823 is a great deal of time, so imagine others missing from the list of children...
On the http://search.labs.familysearch.org site William Wilson's birth didn't come up every time due to the glitch, so in case it never came up the way you were searching it was Nov 3 1820...and the births of siblings come up on that site as well...
-
Hi
thanks, that is a slightly different address for the family search. org.
I just did a search for William Wilson and I see all the possibility.

Maybe someone can find the family in the censuses...Without an age for them they'll be hard to find...Who knows, his father ( or hers) could... be in the home beside him...William is a popular name, though, so a hunt for the previous generation...A look in Bo'ness 1860 to 1890 brings up 2 results, but then not all info has been put on there. Plus we aren't sure where he was born. I see nothing for a Julia...Her information on census might help as well, maybe she goes by a middle name...J.J. Oh, reading through... I see you HAVE access to the censuses?

Just found your thread and have a feeling that you have just brought together some information I have on the Wilson family. My Grandfather was John Wilson from Edinburgh his father Henry Murray Wilson from Linlithgow. Years ago I found a Will (on line) for Henry Murray Wilson wherein he left Jinkabout Mill to one of his sons. I am just about to look through my information for this copy of the Will as I am in recent contact with a 4th cousin who's family originated in Linlithgow and Canada. We are both interested to see if there is a link. If anyone has any other information that will help tie up the loose ends I'd be very grateful.

Please don't forget that the information on the IGI at FamilySearch is not a primary source. It is an index, and a very useful one at that, but it does contain information submitted or contributed by all sorts of people, and not all of it is accurate.
So (a) you should always plan to follow up anything on FamilySearch by looking at the original documents and (b) if FamilySearch says one thing and the original document says something else, I know which one I would trust.
Original documents are on Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. There is no substitute for this in the case of post-1855 births, marriages and deaths, but earlier documents, and the census from 1841 to 1901, can be accessed in the form of microfilm in local libraries in Scotland and at LDS Church Family History Centres worldwide.

Just by chance I was at Jinkabout last week, there was a family of Meek's in the mill in 1798, who emigrated to Quebec, I believe the proprietor then was the Duke of Hamilton. Of the mill itself I could find nothing, it was on a loop of the Avon near the Roman Wall, it's now an industrial estate adjoining the Grangemouth oil refinery, even the mill lade has vanished and an oil pipeline runs through the site. A couple of locals I asked had never even heard of the name. Also the remains of an old tower called Inveravon which I never attempted.
Curiously there was a Jinkabout Mill on the Water of Leith, too much of a coincidence?
Skoosh.

Hi Folks,
Checking up on the Jinkabout Mill at Inveravon by Polmont, I found this piece of info in the The Edinburgh Gazette December 23,1921 page 2227,left hand col.3rd bit down. It's Bout the estate of William Wilson from that area in the early 1920's.
cheers D.F.
-
Hi Skoosh,
I just found out that the Jinkabout Mill at The Water of Leith was a paper mill when the one at Polmont was a corn mill, thought you might want to know that.
cheers D.F.
-
I think it was a corn mill turned paper mill DF.
