My Great Grand grandfathers obituary in 1907 shows that amongst those present were Mrs M Williams and family (who were cousins) from the New York Hotel, Porth - I am trying to connect these people into my tree but with no success. I have looked at the 1911 census with no success, I thought that the Hotel was in York Street, but I cannot find it listed ...... anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks for that - unfortunately by 1911 they were no longer there ..... so now I have to find out who exactly was living there in 1907 ???? I suppose I could check out the 1901 census and see if they were lving there then ...

Hi everyone
With Anthony's help (Treorchy library) I have found out the names of the people who lived in the New York Hotel in 1907 they then moved onto another place in Ferndale and finally ended up in Llwyncelyn Hotel where Mr James Williams died in 1913 his wife having died only a few months before him. He was oiriginally from Hirwaun whereas his wife Catherine was from Mountain Ash - I have found their marriage records and her maiden name dosent appear to connect to my tree - but thanks everyone for your help

My wife's grandfather, James Robert Williams, was the publican of the Llyncelyn Hotel. Her father Glanffrwd was born there in 1904 (which is possibly the year it was built but have been unable to confirm this). The Williams family also had connections with the New York hotel and the Tynewydd. Glanffrwd emigrated to Australia in 1930 and passed away in 1994 aged 90.

lyndarra,
A very warm welcome to Rootschat and thanks for the update.
There's so much more information available about the Hotel these days - thanks to Welshnewspapers on line
htttp://newspapers.library.wales
For example, the Rhondda Leader, 9 May 1903, reported the transfer of the hotel's licence to James Robert Williams - and lots more.
