Post by: leanora on Wednesday 20 October 10 22:30 BST (UK)
my husband was trying to find out more about his fathers family who were living in Plymouth and  how many sibblings he had  beside we think one brother called Joe

his father was born 1907 May 27th name Ernest Terance Flanagan know as Terance now deceesed

his  mother was Edith Flanagan nee May address given on birth cert as 3 Commercial Road, Sutton Road Plymouth.

His fathers name was James Flanagan and occupation Merchant Seaman

now the place of birth was 4 Thistle park Cottages U.D   ( not sure what the U.D. means ?)

I have been told the area where they lived was bombed badly in the 2nd World War  so ot sure if  the address  is still valid ?

could some one be so kind to look up the census please ? Thank you

Hi Leonora,

I am afraid we are unable to offer lookups from the 1911 census due to copyright restrictions. Please see

James FLANAGAN married Edith MAY in March qtr 1896, St. Columb district (vol 5c page 155). A birth was registered in the same district December qtr 1896 for a Joseph Patrick FLANAGAN.
Using FREEBMD you can then tell that several children were registered in Plymouth district with the surname FLANAGAN between 1902 and 1910:
Margaret Mary; Edith; James; Ernest Terence; William Joseph and May Winifred. However, the latter 2 are probably the children of William & Louisa FLANAGAN.

Hi Leonora my wife is trying to trace her family tree and we think James, son of James and Edith Flanagan of Plymouth might be her paternal grandfather.  We found the family living in Ardee Co Louth on the Irish 1911 census.  We know that her father was from Ardee, do you know if James jr had a son in 1934 named John?

my husband said he had an uncle  jimmy who was his fathers brother but cant remember his wife died when was very young. They had a son called or known as jonny and a daughter called Edith possible another daughter called Sheila. but hes a bit unsure about sheila.

Jonny went to live in England went to live in England but this is all he knows.

Shiela had a shop in Ardee, We think Edith Mc caron their sister may be still alive in Ardee.

the Flanagan were all burried in the local grave yard Ballapusta.  not sure if this helps?  we are on our way to India on holiday for a month  not sure how the net connection will be there.
