born?

Sorry she was born in 1859
-
Sorry she was born in 1859
Hi again so as to make the task a little easier, what evidence do you have that her father was a James?
Also what trade was James in?

James came from her marriage certificate to Joseph Jeffreys and James was a shepherd
Clare was born in 1885 and not 1859 as I last said

From FreeBMD

Hi Boxted Boy - please could you lay out the key facts again - something isnt gelling - is this the marriage you mean? Was Clara her Maiden name, or had she previously married?
Marriages Mar 1920
Jeffreys Albert J to Sawyer W. Ham 4a 489
Sawyer Clara M to Jeffreys W. Ham 4a 489
Stowell Florence M West W. Ham 4a 489
West Edward C Stowell W.Ham 4a 489
-
Deaths Sep 1885
SAWYER Clara 0 Tendring 4a 231
That explains her absence in 1891 ... ;D
I agree about the non gelling
Where did her year of birth of 1885 come from? Was she 35 when she married Jeffries then? And as Mort says was she spinster or widow?
-
Hmmmmmm, was Joseph actually JOSEPH ERNEST NEWTON Jeffry ? born c1883 Little Clacton ?
So this is more likely to be the Marriage ...
Marriages Dec 1905
GOLDSMITH Henry George Tendring 4a 1213
JEFFREY Joseph Ernest N Tendring 4a 1213
RIDGION Ada Maud Tendring 4a 1213
SAWYER Clara May Tendring 4a 1213
I believe she may have been born c1886 in Suffolk ....
Births Dec 1885
Sawyer Clara May Plomesgate 4a 832
Pretty sure that this is her - despite forename difference - in 1891... in the Tendring District already ..

Many thanks for all your replies
Just to lay out the facts again
Clare May Sawyer b 1885 married Joseph Ernest Newton b 1882 ( my grandfather ) at St Johns Church Gt. Clacton Essex in Dec. 1905 Joseph was 23 Clare was 20 Joseph was living in Old Road Clacton and Clare was living in Olivers Road Clacton Clare died in 1918 when my mother Frances Olive Joan was only 2 The marriage certificate states her father was James Sawyer and he was a shephard
-
Do Mort's findings look good? Where did your info about her being bn Little Clacton come from?
Have you got her in 1911 census, after her marriage? What place of birth does she give then?
-
What place of birth does she give then?
it confirms 1891 & 1901 findings - good to see we got the correct marriage. I wouldnt worry too much about James being named as a Shepherd vs an Ag Lab ....
-
It was my mistake about Clare being born in Lt Clacton it was Joseph who was born there
The 1911 census confirms that she was born in Lt Glenham Suffolk and living at 34 Warwick Road Claton
-
so, happy with the earlier census findings?
-
I see you were Last Online today at 11:52:09 .... so I'm not quite sure why you havent answered?
Its important to know that the time and effort expended on those searches were correct. :)
-
Many thanks for all your help I have now been able to order Clara May's birth certificate so with any luck will be able to proceed with more generations of her family
-
sounds good :)
Didnt go back to the 1881 census to see who her mother was - just ask if you want to look, or try the free version on FamilySearch ....
-
Many thanks for your offer of help, the reason that I have ordered Clara's birth certificate was that I got totally confused by the 1881 census I am pretty sure that Clara's father is down as Arthur J Sawyer as the rest of the details do line up it states that he was married to a Elizabeth Cooper and that Arthur the son in the 1891 census was in fact her son Arthur E Cooper, Walter the son on the 1891 census also turns up on the 1891 age 5 months which lines up Do you think I am correct
-
mistake in last posting last line should read on the 1881 age 5 months and not the 1891
-
Yes, I came to the same conclusion - not uncommon to see forenames being juggled and as you said the kids were an excellent link.
-
Thanks that is good to know
