Title: George Samuel Beetles Wife
Post by: Brant81uk on Wednesday 19 January 11 21:04 GMT (UK)
I'm wondering if anybody could help me find the wife of my 4 x Gt Grandfather George Samuel Beetles born abt. 1811 in John's Row London and d.1870 in Holborn, Middlesex. I do have a lady Louisa Linton who I found through the hint system on Ancestry but when I checked her marriage info she married a Mr Phillips so that info is wrong.

My 3 x Gt Grandmother George's daughter was a Georgiana Louisa Beetles who married my 3 x Gt Grandfather John G Hitchcock.

If someone could help find Georges wife and a possible marriage that would be fantastic.

Thanks for any help in advance...8)

Hi

I can't see anything. However in 1861 the eldest daughter at home is given as Isabella Beetles.

Her birth in Freebmd is:

Isabella Beetles
December quarter 1844
St Luke 2 264

or better still, your g x3 grandmother

Georgina Louisa Beetles
June quarter 1840
St Luke Middlesex
2 283

If you sent for her birth certificate this would give you her mother's maiden name.

George's wife is enumerated as 39-yr-old Louisa, born St Luke's, in 1861: RG9/204/76/1.

Do you mean this marriage? If so it seems likely to be a re-marriage after George's death (which was registered in Mar qtr 1870), so I'm not sure why it would eliminate Louisa as having been George's wife???

Marriage, Sep qtr 1870

Louisa BEETLES
Joseph PHILLIPS

Holborn 1b 963

If that age is correct, that makes her born about 1822, so unless she married very young, we should be looking at a marriage after 1837, but I can't see one.

Joseph and Louisa PHILLIPS had the youngest BEETLES child (Charles b 1857) with them in 1871: RG10/400/35/15.  Louisa was enumerated as aged 50, born St Luke's.

Hi all,

I all had to re-edit as Maryam had posted some useful info....:)

Thanks for all the information, certainly looks like I have the correct info for Louisa Linton then on my Ancestry Tree. When I saw the marriage to Joseph Phillips I thought all my information was wrong! So the marriage I have is Louisa's second marriage and the info Maryam found with Charles Beetles living with them makes sence as he is in my tree as the child of George and Louisa.

Excellent but I still think i'll get Georgina's Birth Cert just to make certain it is all correct.

Thanks again....8)

I had a Samuel Linton as the father of Louisa in my tree and I looked on the FamilySearch site and found a Samuel Linton who's daughter is Louisa Linton b.1813. But Welsh Lady found her father to be John Linton???

But everything else from the birthplace is right except the fathers name and I cannot find a John Linton???

These family tree's dont half keep you on your toes!!

That really clinches it doesn't it as your gx3 grandmother Georgina Louisa married John Hitchcock.

It could be that Louisa's father was Samuel John and used his second name.

Yes that could be as said above with the names  but Louisas age is quite consistent in all the censues which puts it around 1821 she was born not 1813?

Cheers Welsh Lady and groom,

yeah I to thought perhaps his middle name was John, as everything else rings true. I couldn't find a John Linton living in Lambeth, Surrey where my Louisa is born? I know the records are not complete so maybe I shall never know unless I take the 4 hour trip to London to find out? :)

I have only really started to research the Hitchcock side of my family. My nan died in 2009 as this is her line, so anything I could of asked died with her. Shame, I researched most of my tree around 6 months after her death, so I wish I had started sooner as I always remember my nan talking about her grandad Hitchcock etc etc, sad I will never get the chance again.

Ah well, I got the Rootschat lot to help me in my quest...:)

Cheers guys and gals!

I think every genealogist has said that, I know I certainly have.

Good luck

I have a death for a Louisa Phillips as follows:

Name: Louisa Phillips
Estimated birth year: abt 1813
Year of Registration: 1874
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
Age at Death: 61
District: Hackney
County: Greater London, London, Middlesex
Volume: 1b
Page: 252

Thats where I got the birthyear from....:)

I haven't seen another Louisa Phillips in the Hackney area.

Id keep an open mind on that death Phillips is a common name.Unless you confirm this by sending for the death cert ?
Louisa birth is around 1821 on nearly every census and her birthplace is always St Lukes so id have a look at that avenue to.

Good Luck

I don't think that is her death for two reasons:

1. She was living in Holburn, not Hackney

2. I think she was still alive in 1881   ;D  ;D

Rg 11/360/39/17

Louisa Phillips  lodger  widow   59  (1822)   Dressmaker    St Lukes

32 Charles Street St Lukes

Can't see her in 1891, but she could have remarried.  ::)
