Title: MURPHY - Rosmackay?
Post by: Katharine75 on Tuesday 01 February 11 08:48 GMT (UK)
Hi. Is anyone researching the Murphy family of Rosemackee/Rosmackay (not sure of spelling)? My husband's ancestor was a Laurence Murphy, convict onboard the 'Pekoe' in 1840 to NSW, Australia. I think he was born here about 1817.
Katharine.

Still on hunt for this family!

The Ireland - Australia Transportation database at the NAI lists the following for Laurence Murphy. Trial at Louth on 26/2/1840 for assult on dwelling house, transportation 7 years. Comment- resides in Rosmakeagh, Co.Louth
It gives two document references: TR3 p.127, and CRF 1840 M25. I have no idea what to do with these references? Can anyone tell me?

If anyone has access to local newspapers I would be most interested if there is anything reported on his arrest (possibly in 1839/40) or his trial and sentencing.

Thanks, Katharine.
