Hi I'm looking for information on Philip Dowsett and his family. He settled in Canada after the war of 1812 around 1814-15 He was apparently part of the 2nd battalion of the 57th of the foot. I have been able to trace him in Canada West, Bastard township, fairly well with his descendants. I'm trying to find his family in Essex and find out about his ancestors. This is the only hint I have about his family in England
He was apparently the son of Samuel and Mary Judd Dowsett. I have two bithdates, 1783 and 85. Siblings were Samuel1781, Sophia 1784, Mary 1786, Joseph 1781, William 1790, James 1794 and Edward 1795.
The family was supposed to be from Ramsden Bellhouse. I'm looking for any information to confirm this is my Philip and to find anything about the family. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the information and the search tip. Any other advice advise on how to continue? I'm in Canada so all my research has to be done on line. I must admit I find navigating through the English records a little confusing.
Here is a link to what I have done for the Craig family, I would like to do a similiar one for the Dowsett side.

Hi
There are no Dowsett burials in Ramsden Bellhouse post 1812 so by 1813 the family must have left the village. The index I gave the link to has coverage of baptisms 1780-1840 , marriages 1754-1851 and burials 1813-1865 plus a useful will beneficiary index 1675-1858. If you can find more information about the family from the index it would help in finding what happened to them.

Valda
