Just been reading again about the fall of singapore 69 years ago.

Do any of you have any relatives who were there?

I do. My grandfather's brother was killed the day before Singapore finally fell.

Somewhere I have a photo of him, I'll see if I can dig it out.

My father was stationed there with the RA and was taken by the JIA and spent 3 1/2 as a POW working on the railway and then at Saigon. He never spoke about his time as a POW (who can blame him) but spent many years suffering (in one form or another) from his time in captivity.

I believe that my father was very lucky not to be sent to Singapore.   He left the UK with the 18th British Division ( who initially it was planned that they were going to Basra)     They sailed to Halifax Nova Scotia,  were they transferred to  US Navy   Troop ships.   They arrived in Capetown  on or about the 9th December 1941.

Sometime in the next 6 weeks a Top level decision must have been made to send the 18th division as reinforcements  to Singapore.  so they arrived in Singapore after something like ten weeks at sea.   My dad must have been dropped off at Bombay.

HI, my great uncle was there, he survived under the Japs untill febuary 1945 and buried in Labuan.

My grandad would never have anything from Japan in the house and the family could certainly not have a Japanese car!!!

My uncle, who was a regular soldier, was captured at Singapore. He survived. His story is told here:

We are looking for information about HMS Repulse and Leonard Webber who went to HMS Sultan (shorebase) in Singapore after the sinking.  Does anyone know of a photo of the base in 1942/42
