I wonder if anyone has access to Corfe Castle records. I am looking for birth/baptism of Moses Diffey abt 1830/31.

Dorset OPC gives 19 December 1830 Moses son of Edward and Maria Diffey - Labourer.

Hi Ed,

If it's of any help Moses DIFFEY m a Sarah Ann KIDNEY in Gillingham, Kent in Jul 1863, and they 13 children. The father of Moses was Edward DIFFEY, m to Maria GRANT in Feb 1826 - they had 4 children. Maria died in 1832 and Edward m Ann STOCKELY in Nov 1833 and went on to have another 8 children.

Hi Ed,

I have Priscilla as m and Edward Lewis TINDALL in Dec 1896 in Woudham, Kent. I haven't don'e any further research there as she is a 3rd cousin x 3 removed.

Moses's grandfather was a Robert DIFFEY, b 1768 in Corfe Castle, m Betty BROWN, Sep 1792 in Corfe Castle.

Tindall is my mothers line.When Priscilla died 1900 Woolwich Edward went to U.S and ended up marrying Isabella McLean Wilson Maxwell 19 Aug 1911 Vancouver Canada. He and Isabella then seem to just disappear although there are some records of an Edward Tindall shipping in and out of western US

A little bit more

Their son Edward Lewis born 29 Dec 1897 Woolwich also went to us and surprisingly ended up on west coast. He married Margaret K Thorpe in California and died 21 Jan 1979 Modesto California.
Be interesting to know if he knew that his father was in the area.

How far back have you got on the Diffey side - as far as I can see it goes back to about 1639 which is a Robert Diffey.

I have not really looked beyond his immediate family. I was curious when I came upon Priscilla and that is about as far as I have gone.
