hi all,
looking for info on this cemetery, i am hoping to go on friday to have a look round it, searching for some headstones from around 1910-1930. having had a quick look on google maps, it seems quite a large cemetery, does anyone know or can offer advice as to which part headstone from this time would be located within it?

Hi Stephan7,
Possibly it's best to ring in advance for advice from the Cemetery.
My grandmother was buried in a newly purchased plot in 1936. This is on the furthest right had side, mid row, 3/4 rows in from the boundary of the Cemetery.....bordering Kilvey Hill.
Sometimes graves would have been purchased for the burial of 2/3 or more people, with deaths years apart, so burials from all years could be scattered around the Cemetery.
So as is with the case of my grandmother, others were buried in her plot 40/50 years later.

thanks for the advice, ambers, will give them a ring, i am hoping a couple of my rellies will be in the same plot, with some of the wider part of the family possibly scattered around, but in any case, it will pass a few hours, providing the weather holds out.

thanks for the link, mc, confirms that it is quite large

Hi Stephen,
Just to let you know, I rang the council about this cemetery last week, and was told they do 1 search for free, but if it is for family history purposes, and more than one person is sought, they do charge for looking. As I only had one person I was looking for, I wasn't charged, but did not ask how much either, sorry.

Ring Jason on 07980 721558 - he's the cemetery supervisor and very helpful - don't worry it's not a private number, it's in the public domain.

that's great bev, will call him in the am
thanks again

Oh that's really disappointing - I've had loads like that over there - nothing to photograph. ???
Glad Jason was his usual helpful self for you though ;)

that he was, bev,
i have quite a few who died around the 1890's 1900's, not sure if they are buried there, but undoubtly will be calling on jason's services again( stupid me only took the details of the main people with me and not the others) but will have a long list next time.
by the way, do you happen to know which other main cemeteries wre used at that time. just in case they are not there?
