It is the 5th of April isn't it?
This is the date for the release of 1911 census for Scotland?
No sign of it :(
Any one know what is happening?
Kooky
-
I know what you mean! Is there a particular release time? I haven't been able to find one. I'm in Australia, but I wouldn't think that would cause a delay :(
-
Hi Kooky

Monica
PS: Patience will be a virtue today.....along with counting to ten and trying again, and again ::)
-
For those closer to home, I've just phoned the centre and booked myself a search session on Friday at £15. It's a whole day slot and there was plenty of availability. Their number is 0131 314 4300.
Happy hunting :)

How amazing! I found what I was looking for ever so quickly. In fact, faster than most times - downloaded easily as well :D
Fingers crossed that it stays like that :)

This is my 3rd attempt to get on this thread again. Have looked at 2 census, they`re great, but when I printed them, out can barely see the print. Is it my printer ??

Hi All,
Been on got 2 grandparents already, to print out you can change to landscape then print the 2 pages will print on 1 A4 sheet. Get yourself a good magnifying glass. Got 1 problem already, wife's grandad is 15 and is a Drainsdigger, gravedigger or something ending in "digger".
Like the colour images. nice on the eye.

Hi Kooky
If you go to the my details page on the website and scroll down you will see there is a choice of how to view the record such as direct download, active x viewer, adobe etc
There is an explanation of viewing on the website , here is a link, hope this helps

Monica
-
Purplekat, thank you for your input.
I don't think my settings are the problem, I was looking at images the other day with no problem.
I keep getting a 'website restore error' message :'(
I will just have to be patient.
Kooky
-
I have just started searching.
What a shame that you cannot search for somebody by where they were born. It would make it so much easier.
-
I keep getting a 'website restore error' message
It must so frustrating for something like that to happen today of all days ::).
Congratulations Sue, I'm not having much luck locating my g grandfather, I found his mother. I know he was about somewhere as I have a photo of them taken in 1911.
-
Got it!
Printed it!

Amazing how us RC people can get so excited over the release of a census!! I got so excited, i thought i had discovered a big mystery - the only entry I could find for the exact name of my grandmother Elizabeth, age 11, was in Edinburgh at Donaldson Hospital for the deaf ????? And I knew she had been orphaned in 1909, but she should have been in Glasgow and ??Deaf?..... hmmmm.... had to remind myself to not get too excited - and finally found her on a different listing as "Lizzie" and as a 10 year old, living with her older married sister and family - in Glasgow.!!
So, again - will take my time - lots to find out - and oh dear, - the bank account will feel the pinch!! Happy research everyone!

Got it!
Printed it!
Great ;D
My granddad is also proving difficult, he had too many names and used different combinations of his name at different times and he had a stage name he sometimes used in documents ::)!
-
Have found my grandad ;D but quality not too good , is anyone else having problems with this ?
-
So far all mine have been easy to read today has been a good day makes up for all the other days when you get nothing.
purplekat lucky for me everyone is where they should have been except for one set of ggreats cant find them any where ive tried different spellings, locations still cant find them
Good luck all hope your day is as fruitful as mine ;D

I just wish that it had a search engine like the 1911 England/Wales one has.
-
Oh Dear
I am not happy at all :'(
I purchased some credits
got the usual email telling me transaction successful :)
thought great went to start searching
and guess what no credits >:(
I am awaiting another email from them as they are investigating
what has went wrong ;D
Elaine
-
Elaine, sounds like the usual teething troubles that go with a new launch of something. Do you remember when the Eng. 1901 launched, the site crashed for months!!!
-
I just wish that it had a search engine like the 1911 England/Wales one has.
Me too Inchworm, an occupation search would be helpful
-
Yes and a "where born" esp. I have a common surname but they were born in Hong Kong. At least that would narrow it down a lot!
-
Yes Inchworm thats true many my family members were born in a village where nobody else shared their surname, i have used 12 credits on the wrong people so far!
-
Oh, am I an idiot or what? (don't all answer at once)
Just back from work, having been so excited by the English 1911, where the entries for one strand of my family were all in their own handwriting, and absolutely brilliant, I thought this was going to be the same!!!!
Ah well, you know what thought did..
Great research material and all the rest but really sad that we aren't getting the individual household forms completed in our family's own hand.
Go on - tell me I'm the only numpty that thought we were...
-
but quality not too good , is anyone else having problems with this ?
Yes, the quality is awful to be honest.
-
Well hooray for wi-fi on caravan sites, is what I say! ;D
I now have both my nan and my grandad, with their parents, plus some of their older siblings, including grandad's brother James, who was killed in WW1.
The quality isn't great, is it and it seems to want to jiggle around a lot when I'm trying to move the image up or down. But it's better than nothing and once I get home, I shall print them all so will have no further need of using their silly viewing thingy.
Jen :)
PS - Scotland is very wet and windy tonight. My van is wobbling like the census screen did. ::)
-
the wind's really getting up in our part Jen, sleep well and have a safe night.

Dear Rootsweb, Hello everyone, I did not know that Scotland Loved American Baseball , Because I was it threw me what ONLY described as a "CurveBall"I found My Greatgrandmother Maryann Hastings - Long living with the 3 children Living in Calton Glasgow , Great grandpop William John Long in Cumbanald Dumbartonshire Poorhouse .He was in Barnhill in 1908 All the Best seamus
-
Woo Hoo I found my great grandfather straight away, he was 16 and it was the last census he was on before he was killed in WW1. Strangely his brother was down as the head of household, don't know here their father was ??? He didn't die until 1945, and the children were living alone aged 23 - 9.
I also found my gg uncle with his wife and daughter, as usual it only stated Ireland for her birth and not which county :'(
Now need to find where the other three brothers and the father is. Very pleased so far.
-
I have just started searching.
What a shame that you cannot search for somebody by where they were born. It would make it so much easier.
Inchworm, I find the whole search parameters/fields really basic compared to the E&W census available on various websites. I'm spending not only a fair bit of money but a whole lot of time trawling through the results of my searches. I spent yesterday at the SP Centre and it wasn't really any clearer there. No guidance folders/info except for approaching the Supervisors. Maybe others have had a different experience?

I love the Scotland's people site for BMD's, I wouldn't have got so far with my Scottish family without it however I've been very disappointed with not being able to narrow down my 1911 census searches :(
