Title: GEORGE GAGE
Post by: keeti33 on Friday 08 April 11 11:16 BST (UK)
I am trying to find the  family tree of George Gage was present in the Bay of Islands in 1835 (new Zealand) he married a Maori women he was known to be in new Zealand in 1835 he had 3 children George, John November gage and Mary. One of my relations a david richmond gage played rugby in1888-89 where he travelled to england and apparently went and visited the gages there. They had a castle so the story goes. What I am interested is finding out where this george gage came from, his occupation is noted as sailor , however he ended up becoming a land dealer.

I would appreciate any information

In this death notice for David's sister it refers to her being a cousin of Viscount Gage of Lewes,Sussex,England, this may be a clue to George's roots

Have a look at Paperspast

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=q&e=-------10--1----0-all

If you put in various name combinations you get all sorts, did George have a middle name?

My grandmother was Marion Oliphant Gage, (Mrs. W.M. Ellis in the obituary posted earlier) sister of David Gage et al.  I would love to find out more about how the Gages came to NZ.
