Can any help? Just found a probate record for Albert Edward Crankshaw of 241 Burnley Road, Waterfoot. Said he died on 31 March 1909 at Brandwood Bridge, Bacup.
Where can I find newspapers for 1909? Do you think there is anything sinister about this?
I don't live in Lancashire, so popping to the local records offices is a little difficult! Any help anyone?
Thanks

It could just be a house

the death certificate would show whether it was sinister

try
www.bacuptimes.co.uk
the lady who runs the site is very helpful and will check the newspapers at Bacup Nats for you
I will have a look in the Rossendale Free Press to see if I can find anything but the Bacup Newspapers will probably be better

Perhaps 31 march was the date his will was probated.

Yes, double checking the entry, the date of death was 16 March 1909, the probate was 31 March.
thanks for the link to the Bacup times website - its great!

I know its been a while since I posted this but, I thought I'd better let you know that I did find the details in the newspapers. Its all a bit grim I'm afraid. Poor chap bought some poison, drank it and then lay across the railway lines. The newspaper reports are very gruesome and detailed.
Looks like money was fairly tight and business wasn't great. How very sad.
