Thank you for posting , but no familiar names there.
I asked Armagh Ancestry to do a search for my Owens birth pre 1842 ,to James Donnelly and Ellen Hughes, and though they didn't find Owens birth, they came up with the following births. Armagh Ancestry believe
these births to be of the same family. (these were obtained pre online records.)
24.11.1835 Cath John Donnelly Eliz Hughes Corran --sp. James Hughes, Ann Hughes
10.01.1838 Ann '' '' Elen Hughes '' -- sp. Thomas Hughes ,Judith Collins
19.02.1841 Pat James '' Elizabeth Hughes '' -- sp. Thomas Colllins, Ann Collins
24.10.1842 Michael John '' '' ''' '' -- sp. Pat Hughes, Mary Robs
My Owen Donnelly was married to Mary Anne McGone, 16/04/1863---from the Ballymacnab Catholic Parish Register- Witnesses GeorgeSherry and Margaret Keating.

The Hughes sponsors that you have are probably the generation that i am researching at the moment .I know that later on some of this family settled in Corran but im not sure about this earlier generation .Sorry i have`nt found any Donnelly links yet
-
I have struggled on with my Hughes research with not a lot of success .I have a death certificate for Bernard Hughes b 1867 who never married and was still living with his parents in 1901 and 1911......Bernard died in December 1941 but what confuses me is that he was living in the Workhouse at the time .His will shows that probate was granted to James Hughes and James McParland .

I haven't been able to get much further either. Hopefully the Land Revision Books that are going online at Proni will help a little.

Hello Again Tootsiepie
I have just received a death certificate for Bernard Hughes (Ancestor of all of the above) and I am sure it is definitely his as it gives his address as Armaghbrague . The name and residency of the informant was James Donnelly of Armaghbrague who was present at death .The date of the death was 27th January 1867 do you think this could be one of your Donnellys
-
Thanks for the tip by the way .I used the land revision books, which are dated using the different coloured ink, to find out when the Family Farm passed from Bernard to his son James .This happened in 1867 and I used this date to narrow down all the results for a Bernard Hughes death for that year
-
This is interesting isn't it? I will have to go and have another look at the land revision books and also the tithes. What age was Bernard senior when he died in 1867? My James Donnelly (Father of Owen who married in 1863) may have been of an age with Bernard.
I will get back to you on this, but I have nothing more than an ''it's possible'' at the moment. However I did have an Auntie Bernie ;D and I have no idea where this name came from.
Did any of your family settle in Glasgow?
-
His Death Certificate shows his age as 84 in 1867 so this gives us a birth date of around 1783. I thought the James Donnelly might have been a son-in-law maybe . I don't know of any of the family settling in Glasgow i think my Great Grandfathers brother James may have been with him in Middlesbrough until at least 1911 but we don't have any other family now in this area (unless they have lost touch)plus on the death of Bernard Hughes b1867 in 1941 probate was granted to a James Hughes and James McParland who im assuming would be brother and cousin so im guessing that he returned to Armagh ...if indeed he ever left. Sorry if i went a bit off track ...im confusing myself now
-
Yes, son-in-law might work. I've been looking at Griffiths for the Donnelly/Hughes names in various townlands and I'm totally confused myself!!
Have you seen this site? It shows the layout of townlands clearly.
http://www.bygonesandbyways.com/mainmenu.htm
I'll spend a bit more time on this tonight and tomorrow.
-
Hi again, I'm going round in circles with this ::) All I'm getting is a lot of maybes!! I thought I had the tithes but no luck. I think I had been thinking of the freeholders lists at Proni.
http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/freeholders_records.htm
You can also search these by townland. Armaghbreague has no Hughes, but 2 Donnellys...
I'm also looking at the townland of Granemore in closeby Parish of Keady. I have a possible Owen Donnelly there, but can't prove he's mine. Cashel, Corran, Granemore, Cladymore and Armaghbreague are all very close together.
The name Malaghan is also mentioned in Cladymore Freeholders.
I've still to have another look on the IFHS Armagh site.
-
Hello Again Tootsiepie .....I had a quick search of the freeholders records and Bernard Hughes shows up (I think its results 6 and 7) for Armaghbreague .Ive been looking at various things myself but have had no luck . Me and my wife are off to Dublin tomorrow for a 5 day break so il try again when I return fresh
