Hi Kevin, are there any Duns (normally 1 'n' but might be 2). Specifically George Dun who died sometime shortly after 1841, he would be about 80, or anyone who might be his father or an earlier ancestor. Also his wife Euphemia Lees, she must have died between 1829 and 1841. Any Dun at all with 1 "n" who is there will be closely connected to my family. Thanks so much.
-
PS George Dun lived in Sime Place at the time of his death but previously farmed at Whitebank and Hollybush. A John Dun farmed at Kilknowe at the end of the 18th century. Before that I think the family probabaly came from Lindean/Boleside just outside Gala.

Hello Kevin
This is my first contact so I hope I have got it right! I am interested in a Hilda Jane Hogg and her parents. Hilda, who's mother was born in Leeds was baptised in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire 7 Oct 1900. Her parents were George Clark Hogg and Alice (Wright) Hogg who lived in Galashiels and are on the 1901 census is not. I suspect she may have died in Galashiels during the winter of 1900-1901. Any information you may be able provide regarding any of these people would be most welcome.

My great great great grandfather Alexander Ramsay died 4 December 1899 at Knowe Cottage, Galashiels. Have no idea where he is buried - he was from Edinburgh but was staying with a daughter at the time of his death. Would really appreciate you having a look to see if he is in either of the cemeteries you have details for. Many thanks.

Hello
Hello
I've been told that I have quite a few family members in Eastlands cemetery, the Laidlaws and the Templetons. Alexander Laidlaw was born 27 June 1879 and died 23 April 1948. His father was William Laidlaw and his mother was Mary Alexander.
Also Jane Tweedie Laidlaw who died in July 1945 aged around 60. There may be a William Laidlaw her son there as well.
Also Jack (John) Templeton born around 1917 and Adam Templeton born 10 December 1892 and he died in the 1950s.
Hope you can help. Thank you.

After Birkel's kind offer in his post in May there doesn't seem to be any replies to these queries - unless they have been by personal message although I didn't receive one. Perhaps he is no longer looking at this site?
-
Hello
I just received a personal message from the poster. I believe that you will get a response if you send a personal message rather than posting a request on the forum according to the message that I received.
Hope this helps.

Hello Josephine,
I wrote to you on 15 January abt. your inquiry on the Oliver family. I am wondering whether you and other people are receiving my emails.
On the above date i wrote:
I viewed the Old Ladhope Cemetery CD. The names with the dates you gave me there are no listings of them. This CD lists only people that have headstones. There are four people listed with the last name of Oliver ; Edward (1801 - 1882), John " no date listed", William ( 1836 - 1880) and Robert (1838 - 1910). I have been to Galashiels on three occassions and have been to Old Ladhope, it is a very cemetery.
I viewed the Eastlands Cemetery CD. There are 25 people with the last name of Oliver.
Please let me know whether i can help you further.

Thanks for your offer! I have a grandmother that emigrated to the US in the early 20th century. I have no information on her past only that she gave a burial site to her sister, Agnes Weir Allan, in 1961 in Galashiels, Scotland. I don't know which cemetery and I don't know when she died. Her maiden name is Weir so I would assume she is buried in some kind of family plot with other Weir's.
Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for your time.
-
Hello,
I checked the CD's of Old Ladhope, Eastlands and Saint Peter's cemetery. Did not locate any Agnes Weir Allan by her maiden or married name.
She may still be interred at one of the cemeteries since these cd's only show people that have headstones.

Hello,
I'm looking for any mention of Jane Wilson (b. 24 August 1872 Ladhope d. 27 September 1873 Ladhope), who is supposed to be buried in "New Burial Ground, East Lands, Galashiels" according to old family records.
Any other Wilson or Scott mentioned would be great, too. Jane's grandmother, Elizabeth Wilson (nee Scott) d. 04 Apr 1877, widow of James Wilson, might also be listed, among others.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I looked for the Thomas Hall you sent me 1861 - 10 Sept 1936. I did not locate him listed on the cd with a headstone, as this cd only lists people with a headstone.
I did locate a Thomas Hall b. 1855 - d. 10 Sept 1930. The headstone reads:
(Small stone, broken from base):... In loving memory of Helen C. Watson our adopted daughter who died 6.2.1902 aged 17 years also James Flynn who died 10.7. 1909 aged 50 years and of Thomas Hall who died 10.9.1930 aged 75 years also his wife (remainder of inscription buried).

Hello,
I viewed the names you gave me, Jane Wilson b. 1872 - d. 1873 and Elizabeth (Scott) Wilson d. 1877 plus widow James Wilson, on the cd Eastlands Cemetery. These people are not in the cd, this cd just shows people interred with a headstone. They could be interred at Eastlands.
You asked me to look for the last name of Scott at Eastlands Cemetery. I will need first and last names(Scott). The cd is indexed only by last names. There are least 50 index with the last name of Scott.

Thanks for looking! I hadn't realized there might be so many "Scott" burials there - I'll have to do more digging and get back to you about it.
Are there many Wilsons? Is James Wilson listed by any chance? I don't know when he died, except that it was before Elizabeth, but he was born in 1804.
Thanks again!

Hi all - I have been to both. I have many relatives buried in Eastlands and some in Old Ladhope. There is an issue with entering Old Ladhope though - the gate is chained. I am not sure why but many of the stones have fallen over. My cousin had to arrange for it to be unlocked which it was. Unfortunately the stone that we were looking for had fallen over - that of my 3xGreat Grandparents Agnes (Nancy) Flowers and William Bell. Old Ladhope is on somewhat of a hill and outside the burial ground walls the view of the hills is so peaceful and beautiful.

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to locate the burial place of Robert Aimers who is mentioned in Robert Hall's book, "The History of Galashiels".
Apparently he made the first cartwheel in the district and his gravestone is said to have a cartwheel on it, according to the book. I'm not sure of his lifespan yet except that it was sometime between 1656 and 1739, possibly died in 1739.
I'm not sure what cemetery he would be buried in, perhaps there was only one at that time?
Many thanks if anyone can help.
Regards Eliza.

My paternal great grandmother Elizabeth (Lizzie) Shields born 1891 was in a relationship with a man named James (Jimmy) Reid roughly 1910-1916 and lived in Galashiels before she moved to Manchester.
I’m just now trying to find more information about these people but have nothing.
I don’t have dates of birth or death of James but guess he would have been a similar age to Lizzie.
Can you see anything that might help?
Thanks very much.
