Hi
Wonder is someone may be able to help, I am looking for the roots of Swindaniah Brown, I am wondering if she is my great x 3 grandfather Obediedom's sister. I have never had much luck before in finding this part of my family and it was pure fluke I found out the following information
I have found a marriage and 5 children for Swindaniah who I think was born about 1813/4 it is recorded that she was born at Nailsworth Gloucestershire .
However, Swindaniah was living in the Lambeth area when she married in 1841as was Obediedom
He was born about 1793 and I believe his father was Job, mother unknown, it could have been Hester Young ?????
Whilst researching Obediedom, Swindaniah showed up .
I was confused at first as the Swindaniah I found was only 5 in 1841 and I had a marriage in 1841 of Swindaniah.
I have found his family in the Lambeth area and his marriage to Hannah
and other children Parthenia ,Esther, Swindaniah and Obediedom, repitition of names !!!
Hoping I haven't Confused any of you too much but would be grateful for any help
Many Thanks

Hello Suz
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I found that Swindaniahs father was Job, this is what first alerted me that there could be a connection.............
But what I need to confirm who was Obediedoms father and mother, and was there a link??
How will I be able to confirm this do you know, I appreciate you have been able to confirm a few facts already and I much appreciate your time and help
Regards

The new Family Search has a baptism of Obediedom Brown 9/7/1797 at Horsley, Glos. Father Job, mother Hester.
-
Thankyou so much for this information it has at long last confirmed Obediedoms parents........
I haven't used that site but will certainly take a look as I need to confirm if Swindaniah born in 1814 was indeed his sister
Many thanks

Know this is a rather old post but have stumbled upon it whilst looking into my family. Swindaniah Brown pops up as Mother of a Vashti Nichols, have the marriage of Swindaniah Brown to Charles Edmund Nichols in Newport Monmouthshire in 1890, wonder if this fits in with any history you have come across? Did you ever find the origins of the name Swindaniah?

Hi again.
I am a bit confused from what I can see Swindaniah Brown married William Williams 1890.
She appears with her Father in Law 1891 Census and died 1893?

Death Reg
Williams, Swindaniah age 26**, Abergavenny 11a 30

My Swindaniah Brown married a Charles Edmund Nicholls in Newports in 1890, it is such an unusual christian name to be linked to the same surname seems surprising, just wonder if they are the same person, or if they are connected, also connected to Gloucester as Swindaniah father I think was a William Brown, admittedly my Swindaniah Brown was born Monmouth as per 1871 census, think they must be connected in someway
-
I can see no Census with Charles Edmund Nicholas with a wife Swindaniah.
What child of theirs are you descended from?

With the name, Swindaniah Brown, thought that was going to be the easy path! Didn't think for one minute I'b find two! Yes will go off and back track on some other parts of the family, thanks
-
Do you have a clear paper trail leading back to Swindaniah? Previous posts seem pretty clear that the 1890 Swindaniah Brown marriage wasn't to Mr Nicholls. The birth being 24 years after the marriage isn't unknown, but is pretty unusual
I am more inclined to go for this marriage for Vashti's parents
Marriages Sep-Dec 1908
Crickhowell Voll 11b p228
BROWN Mabel Kate
NICHOLS William
WILLIAMS William Marfell
YOUNG Beatrice Ellen
It might be worth investing in a copy of the 1921 census record for Vashti. The other people with the surname Nicholls in the same parish very much point to the couple above
-
Hi davdwill.
NICHOLS, WILLIAM EDWARD mmn BROWN***
GRO Reference: 1910 D Quarter in BEDWELLTY Volume 11A Page 76
I cant post 1911 Census for copyright reasons but William and Mabel Nichols have a Son Willie age 6 mths.
Birth Reg as above.
Vashti is reg same district 1914, mmn Brown.
1939 she is born 2 Jan 1914 and death reg the same
You either have to get the M/C of Fred/Vashti to confirm her Fathers name/occp or the best one would be to get her Birth Cert which will have her Mothers maiden name also.
Your Vashti I am really sure has a Mother Mabel, not Swindaniah

Thank you all, 1921 cencus does show vashti with mabel, so looks like I've lead myself and everyone else up the garden path, must have had some filters on when I first searched as it was the only Brown/Nicholls I could find appoligies to everyone who's spent time searching

I guess you may have been searching Monmouthshire, when their marriage was registered as Crickhowell in Brocknockshire (as it then was) which people don't realise also covered places like Brynmawr and Beaufort. I've done it in the past!
