Title: thomas and blanche m burns
Post by: yorkshire lad on Saturday 21 May 11 21:28 BST (UK)
Hi,
Can anyone offer info on the marriage or deaths of, Thomas Burns born 1888 in Huddersfield England, and Blanche M Burns, born 1889, maiden name unknown. They were probably married around the Boston Massachusetts area as this was where Thomas emigrated to and lived. They were living in Boston Massachusetts from at least 1937 to 1942. Also any info on their deaths would be great. Thomas was single in 1910, so the marriage would be between 1910 and 1937. Both deaths were after April 1942.
Thanks for any info,
Yorkshire Lad.

Unfortunately there are no marriage records available online that I am aware of for the time frame you require.  The Massachusetts BMD Index covers 1841 - 1910.

If you have an exact date of birth for your Thomas and he died after 1962 then you would be able to check the SSDI Index

This site will give you what is available on Census and some other records:_

According to the WW1 and 2 Drafts the birth date was 12 November 1888 - no death shows on the SSDI.

The WW1 Draft states he had a wife but gives no name. It was dated June 5 th 1917. Difficult to read but it looks as if they were in Billerica. Boston. Massachusetts.

WW2 Draft indicates he was a Doctor Thomas Burns living at 227 Lincoln Street. Newton Highlands. Middlesex. Massachusetts,
Self Employed at 419 Boylston Street. Boston. Suffolk. Massachusetts. Wife Blanche M Burns of the same address.

Both drafts state born Huddersfield.

Hello Yorkshire Lad,

The reason for asking is that I suspected Thomas was married twice.  This was thjs first marriage 2 January 1912 in Winthorp. Massachusetts to Eleanor Lees. Daughter of Joseph H Lees and Eleanor Clark. Thomas was a masseur and Eleanor a lady's maid.

The above leads me to believe that Thomas was living in Batavia Street. Boston Ward 7, Suffolk, Massachusetts in 1920 as a lodger in the New comb household.  The father of Thomas was born in Ireland and Mother England. The Census states he was married.  He immigrated in 1910 and was naturalized in 1918. Occupation was Therapist. Medical Inst. There is no Eleanor with him.

A Boston Passenger List shows Eleanor Lees born about 1890 and aged 21 years travelling Liverpool to Boston on the SS Franconia arriving 19 July 1911. Occupation was laundress. Mother Mrs Lees of 70 Cross Lane. Marsh. Eleanor was born Huddersfield and was travelling to her Aunt:- Mrs Fahey. 43 Washington Street. Marlborough. Boston. Massachusetts. Last permanent address was in Eccles. Which ties in with your other thread:-

Reply 8 gave the parents of Eleanor Lees. believe these to be Joseph Haigh Lees born about July quarter 1839 (son of Samuel and Ann Lees) and Eleanor Clark. Joseph Haigh Lees was an Auctioneer and valuer..

Eleanor was with her Mother at 6 Milford Street. Huddersfield in 1891, Father Joseph was with his Brothers John and James in Tranmere. Cheshire.

Eleanor Lees aged 35 and a shipping agent.  Walker Lees aged 13 Sarah Lees    aged 9 Herbert Lees aged 6 Eleanor Lees aged 4
These people were all lodgers:- Edith Wedgvernon aged 23 Horace W F Livermore aged 37 Eliza Charlotte Livermore   aged 36.

Joseph with brother John G in Tranmere in 1891

John G Lees aged 39 (Furnishing salesman)  Mary E Lees aged 36 Agnes Lees aged 10 Emily Lees aged 8 Bertha Lees aged 5
Joseph H Lees aged 53 years (Auctioneer and Brother)    James T Lees aged   57 (Freight Clerk and Brother)
Edward J Mathews   64 Visitor.

Possible death of Joseph:-

Joseph Haigh Lees -  Aged 51   -  Birkenhead    8a   308

By 1901 her Father Joseph had died and they were living at 80 Cross Lane. Hudderfield.

Eleanor Lees aged 45 Sarah Lees aged   19 Eleanor Lees aged 14 Herbert Lees aged   16
Mark A Wallon   56 Lodger.
