Title: Benjamin Porter - Man of Property.
Post by: Emmeline on Thursday 16 June 11 10:00 BST (UK)
When Benjamin Porter, Mercer of London wrote his will in 1740 he bequeathed various properties in Essex  to his wife, two daughters and a son.

I  have tried my best to transcibe the names of these properties which are as follows : -

Edsins - in Fordham
Little Preyden - Fordham
Great Burkes & Little Burkes in Much? Fordham
Clay Pit Crofts - Much? Fordham
Colrownes - Fordham
Harts - Fordham
Lamsey - Fordham
Oskins - Felsted
Saulters Field - Felsted
Oskins Field - Felsted
Oskins Grove - Felsted
Round Hays - Felsted
Little Brook Field - Felsted
? Leyes alias Brays Paddocks - Felsted
Installs - Felsted (copyhold held by the Manor of Felsted)

I'm hoping that someone who knows Fordham/Felsted may recognise some of these names and be able to tell me whether any of them still exist today  ???  Some of the names I know are transcribed correctly - others, not so sure.

He had further property in Yarmouth - I will leave that for another day and another board  :)

Thanks for any help........
