Title: applegarth of middleton-st-george COMPLETED
Post by: cambria on Thursday 16 June 11 15:31 BST (UK)
I am researching applegarth family. Albert Applegarth born 1904 married in darlington area in, I think, 1961 . It is the wife I am intrigued about.  What was her maiden name? Where was she living?

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Can you confirm that both have died. I believe they have, especially Albert given a date of birth as 1904, but it is Rootschat policy not to discuss living people.

Hi, Evie.
You can tell I'm new to this. Albert, I think, died 1969 and the wife in 1984. He married late in life, that i do know!

Hi

Not to worry we were all new once. :)

I had a look at Durham registrar's certificates and their marriage is indexed. Sometimes if a person gets married for the second time a previous name is also given in the index but in this case that wasn't so. However that is not to say she wasn't a widow.

I think the only way to know for sure would be to purchase the marriage certficate, do you have the reference for it?

Do you know of any children that were connected to Albert and his wife possibly from previous marriages?

Evie, thank you. I don't think that can be the right one because there was a child born about 1955
to them both (living, so i won't say name). They married later but I assume the child was given the Applegarth surname. ...........................
His mother was Caroline Emma and there was a big family but I haven't been able to trace them all since I'm relying on free bmd and good detective work. Can you help, please?

Forgot to say I'm pretty sure of Albert's death year but I really don't know Dorothy's so may have the wrong one.

Hi

Yes, I will try and help you.

Can you Private message me with the name of the child as it should show his wife's maiden name in the index. Just click on my green scroll.

After searching the free index on 1911 I had a feeling that Albert's parents were Caroline Emma and John. Do you have them in the 1901 census?

Hi

I think you might be correct about it being the wrong lady. There was another lady (Sandwick) from the Darlington area that married an Applegarth. Looking at the birth indexes she was registered in Jul, Aug, Sept 1906. So the death I saw could well be her.

The death indexes I have access to only go up to 2005.

Hi

I think we need to be careful here and delete the name of Albert's wife as I have a feeling she may still be alive. As you can see I have edited my posts the best way I could ;)
