Title: Marriage search
Post by: trasqui on Sunday 26 June 11 05:00 BST (UK)
My 1st post.....from Australia. I have been searching for a marriage of Joseph TIPPETT to Phillippa BLEWETT some where in Cornwall. The date stated on the birth transcript of their daughter Phillippa, is 14th December 1857. Phillippa was born 8th May 1863 South Lead, Forbes, NSW. Australia.
Kindest Regards to anyone who can help with this subject.
Fay

Hi Fay,

A Big Welcome to RootsChat.

Having a look about it appears Phillippa died in 1868 along with her newborn son. Seems she was the daughter of William and Jane/ Jennifer borne in Camborne 1837.

She married Nicholas CURNOW in Camborne 30 July 1854 (Her father listed as William and his as Samuel)

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~camborneopc/marriages1852-1858.htm

If I have the correct Nicholas I next see a marriage in 1860 to Mary Ann WEARNE and he appears in Wendron in 1861 with her and their baby.  ???

Now it gets even more interesting.

There is an arrival into Melbourne

Jos TIPPETT a farmer aged 29
Phillippa TIPPETT wife aged 21
Jas PAUL 17 a farmer
Charity PAUL wife aged 21

all were English

arrived in Victoria 22 Feb 1858 aboard the HERALD

I don't see a marriage. James PAULL and Charity MOYLE also married in Camborne (in 1857). - He is Philippa's nephew (Son of her sister Elizabeth) Elizabeth and her family can be found in the same household as Philippa in 1851 (at the home of Philippa's parents) So does seem this is Joseph and Philippa's arrival as a couple. I just don't see the marriage.

Cheers Kris :)

Aha I have it - In Victoria  ;D

Joseph TIPPETT = Philippa CURNOW 1861 Vic #2120

Their first child I can find Frances Mary was born at White Hills Vic in 1862 #4773
Then in Forbes in NSW
Phillippa in 1863 #9961
Joseph in 1865 #11265
Thomas H in 1868 #11200

There appear to be deaths for both young Thomas and Phillipa in 1868 in Forbes

Thomas H parents Joseph and Philippa in Forbes #5005/1868
Phillippa parents William and Jane in Forbes #4978/1868

What has me confused is

Jane Elizabeth TIPPET born Sandhurst Sandridge Vic reg in Vic 1869
 #10403

You can purchase uncertified copies of these Vic records and download immediately

https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage

No idea if this could be late registration. Phillippa certainly appears to have died in NSW the previous year  :-\

Cheers Kris :)

Hi there,  Welcome to RChat,

NSW Electoral Roll, 1870, The Bogan (Forbes was in this electorate in that era)
TIBBITS James C,  at Mytonfield
TIBBITS Walter Hugh, at Dubbo.

Enrollments were organised and rolls checked by the Police Magistrates.  I realise the surname is TIPPETT, but perhaps the Police may not have checked the spelling.

South Lead, Forbes  :) have you a further interest in that specific location perhaps  ;)

Cheers,  JM

Thanks JM. The surname is definitely TIPPETT or TIPPET.

It would be good to have some knowledge of "South Lead". I am assuming it is a district of Forbes?

Yes,  I will see what I have on it ...

Lead indicates a gold mine

So South Lead, Forbes would indicate a gold mine named "South Lead" ,  in the Forbes District.

Hi there,

Google Street view has South Lead Road Forbes NSW ....  so from that it shows it as to the south of the Township.

There was a South Lead Gold Mining Company at Forbes mentioned in several articles in the digitised online newspapers
