Title: Elizabeth Ann Morgan
Post by: hencarrai on Tuesday 09 August 11 23:20 BST (UK)
Can anyone please help find marriage of Elizabeth with Robert B??????.
1901 census shows 'Lizzie Ann' age 16, at home in Crumlin, Mon. with her parents Charles and Annie Morgan.
A boarder is Robert B age 17 born Symonds Yat, Monmouth.
RG13/4967/47/p33.

1911 census shows Lizzie Ann and Robert B married 2 years and still in Crumlin.
Robert born English Bicknor.
With them is Robert's father (Robert J B???) age 57, born Ireland.

Many thanks,
Rob

Hello  :)

I think it is possible that Lizzie Ann was born with the surname Bate.

Found a marriage in 1887 of Charles Morgan and Annie Bate
Pontypool volume 11a page 175

and a marriage of Robert Charles Burgwin and Elizabeth Ann Bate in 1909
Newport M volume 11a page 399

Kind Regards
Morgan

Wow, thanks Jackie & Morgan.
You've really stirred the pot now.

I tentatively had Ann Roberts as Charles Morgan's wife, but I think your info makes much more sense of the family.
I guess I'm going to have to splash out on a couple of certificates to bottom it.

Thanks again,
Rob

Hi Morgan, this may be of interest:
I think the 1871 census you found reads Thomas and Elizabeth Dawes (not Davies).
Fbmd has marriage of Thomas Dawes and Elizabeth Bate, 1869 Shifnal, Shropshire.

As 1871 census shows Elizabeth Bate brought with her Sarah J. and Ann; either from previous marriage or base born. I haven't found a marriage.
This census says Thomas Dawes was 12 when 'daughter' Elizabeth was born??

1881 census shows Daw(e)s family in Kendon Rd, Crumlin; daughters, Ann(18), Elizabeth(11), Clara(8).
Ann noted as Imbecile, (maybe because she couldn't make up her mind as to whether she was Bate or Dawes, ha,ha). She must be the Ann Bate who married Charles Morgan in 1887 do you think?

1911 census for Robert Burgwin and Lizzie Ann also shows Clara Dawes(38) Aunt.

Best wishes,
Rob

Hi Rob  :)

Apologies, I agree that the name is Dawes not Davies in 1871. Been dealing with too many Welsh families...  :D

That is a good find! However, I'm not sure whether an imbecile would have been allowed to marry. Perhaps it was an error  :-\  She is also listed as Wife of Lab ("   "   "  as her Mother).
It does fit though!

Kind Regards
Morgan
