Title: Benjamin SIMS - Trowbridge
Post by: d.v.j.redmond on Monday 12 September 11 00:18 BST (UK)
Dear all,

I'm looking for the baptism record of Benjamin Sims born between 1823-1828 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Dave

OOPS!  I think I checked the transcript for the wrong century, sorry!

I searched the typed transcripts for Trowbridge St James from 1720 to 1731 and found just this one:

6 Jun 1722 Benjamin s/o William & Rebecca SIMS.

I didn't check the register itself.

But I also checked a handwritten sort-of index for the years 1813-1825, and 1825-1837, I came across a number of SIMS (and variants) but no Benjamins.  It's possible I missed him, because it wasn't as easy to read as a typed list and also wasn't fully alphabetical (just surnames grouped according to initial letter), but I hope not.

Anyway, that explains why the index didn't match the transcript!

The other Trowbridge parishes don't seem to have been in existence till some years later.

Best wishes
Jane

Hi

I am also looking for information on a Benjamin Sims. The one I have was trading in Tierra del Fuego in 1847 when he got embroiled in a dispute between the native indians and the crew of a British ship. He was taken away with another man and they were both presumed murdered. They were kidnapped in 1847. Could it be the same Benjamin?
