I have recently found this picture amongst some others as yet unidentified. This one I believe to be Joseph Tertius Talbot Cliff of the Iron foundry owners in Froddingham in Lincolnshire. Which went on to be Appleby Froddingham iron and steel works near Scunthorpe.
The picture I think is of the founder Joseph Cliff's grandson Joseph Tertius Talbot Cliff. he was born 1874 and died 1953 at Hatfield. I wonder if anyone out there has any means of identifying this picture.
any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

If the photograph identifies the location of the photographer's studio, then
this link may help to date the photo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._%26_D._Downey

If he is from this family were very wealthy so the photo could have been taken just about anywhere that this photographer had a studio or even at their home.

True enough, but my point was that not all the studios opened on the same date. :)

Sorry I misunderstood the comment, the back of the photo gives the info that you are talking about ( see photo) It seems it was taken in Newcastle so it would be post 1863. As he was born in 1874 and he looks to be late teens or early twenties it could date to about 1890 ish. Thanks for the help

Is this the same Joseph Tertius Talbot Cliff who was a High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1923. If so then maybe there is a photo of him in this role in the Lincolnshire archives somewhere.

It may well be I can't see two people having a name like that!! Thanks I'll have a look.

Just out of interest there is a photo of Joseph Smith the iron founder on www.northlincs.gov.uk and this young man is a dead ringer for him.

Thanks James that was one of the pictures that set us off trying to find out who this photo is. We have Joseph Snr and his son on that web site but not his Grandson.
