I am trying to trace my granads family back in wales.
he was born william james maurice morgan in january 1918 at merthyr tydfil, the only other clue i have is that his mothers maiden name was morris.
the strange bit,and why i am finding it very hard to trace his family.
his mother remarried when he was very young (i presume his dad died?!) she married a "kennedy" and they moved to hendon/london where he grew up and worked then left for the army. he was posted in egypt. during his campaign out there his mother and stepfather(whos name he then took on) both died. he married and raised his family here in bournemouth. my grandad died in 1982 when i was a kid so never got to ask any questions.
does anyone read this and remember a morgan marrying a morris and having a son called william (bill) who disappeared? there must be descendents left there somewhere and I would love to be able to tell my dad that he has some cousins or other family members still there.
any info even small would be greatly appreciated,I really have hit a brick wall in finding my grt granny and grt grandad morgan.
lisamarie kennedy-morgan :)

welcome to Rootschat! ;D
do you have any certificates to help trace the family? Birth cert would be a good start
William J M Morgan march qtr 1918 Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 1551 mother's maiden name Morris
-
yep you got the same as me,if i ordered a paper copy of his birth ertificate would his mum and dads names be on it in full?
I have been on ancestry site for days, like all day, every day! i cant find a morris marrying a morgan in that area that matches at all :(
-
yes, you need to buy a copy of the cert. That will give you his mother's first name & any previous surnames & father's name & occupation.
http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/births.htm
You can order online using the ref
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Once you have the first names, you'll have something to search to find the first marriage & the remarriage. I'm finding too many Morris/Morgan marriages in the area to be sure & there are far too many Morgan deaths registered Merthyr Tydfil to work out which one could have been his father.
-
Thankyou,I wil order a copy of his birth certificate, hope it does have everything one it.
yes you see the problem i had, there was so many morgan/morris weddings at that time :(

indeed, but it's the only one that seems to match
William James Kennedy born 29/1/1918 dec qtr 1982 Bournemouth vol 23 pg 0070
I'm not finding a likely Kennedy/Morgan marriage either.....
::)

I did find this marriage
Edward F Kennedy
Gwyneth S Morgan
Sept qtr 1930
Newport M
11a 657
but the names don't "fit" with other information
Looks like we will have to wait for lisamarie to come back in line with hopefully more information

I'd be surprised if they're not on any census, but without knowing their names, they can't be searched for.
