I am trying to trace my paternal line and would welcome any help regarding the Maynard`s of Easingwold. :)

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat.
So that people can help you can you give us some names and dates and tell us what you already know. Have you found them in any censuses?
-
Yes I do have some information. My Great - Grandfather John Thomas Maynard, was born in 1864 at Easingwold North Yorkshire ( or at least he was registered jan - mar 1864). He appears to have moved to Leeds and appears on the 1891 census married to Elizabeth. I can find no mention of him on the 1871 census. His father Thomas appears on the 1881 census living in Leeds ,Possibly a widower at this time. Thomas I believe was born in 1830 at Easingwold. I believe that Thomas appears on the 1861 census living at Uppleby Easingwold . He appears to be married to Margaret and has a young daughter. On the 1851 census he appears as a 19 year old working for the Appleby`s as an Agricultural Labourer. There appears to be a slight discrepancy here regarding his age and because the Maynard's in this area are quite numerous at this time , I would appreciate any help to prove the link.
If I am correct thus far by using other sources I have managed to extend the line a further two generations. Thomas`s father was John Maynard born Easingwold 24 apr 1799 - died sept 1860. I believe this John is buried in the grounds of the parish church. John`s father was one William Maynard born approx 1765 Yorkshire. I know it`s a long shot but if anyone can supply any information regarding William that would be most helpful or any information regarding the family line. I believe that originally we had connection to the Maynard's of Oldstead, Wass, Kilburn and Ampleforth. I suspect that my line is the second or third son who had to go off make their own fortune.
In addition to the above I have discovered that the Maynard's have a long history with this area of Yorkshire. I have found references to Maynard's going back to the 16th century. Additionally there is mention in the local history of a Mainard who was appointed to the parish of Easingwold by King Stephen, who was William the conquerors Grandson. Who knows maybe the Norman connection is more than just a family legend.
As you can see I have been quite busy. Any additional information would be very helpful no matter how obscure, and greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,
Here's Thomas as requested, in 1871 :
I can find no mention of him on the 1871 census. His father Thomas appears on the 1881 census living in Leeds ,Possibly a widower at this time. Thomas I believe was born in 1830 at Easingwold. I believe that Thomas appears on the 1861 census living at Uppleby Easingwold . He appears to be married to Margaret and has a young daughter.
1871 census :
RG10/4531, Folio 21, Page 36
Yorkshire, Wortley
Upper Wortley
Thomas Maynarg, h. mar, 41, Farm Labourer, Great Ouseburn
Margret Maynard, wife, 40, b. Easingwold
Mary, dau, 12, Scholar, b. Easingwold
Amie, dau, 10, Scholar, b. Easingwold
John T, 8, Scholar, b. Easingwold
Margret, dau, 3, b. Wortley
Lillie, 6 mths, b. Wortley
Lucy, 6, dau, Scholar, b. Easingwold
The enumerator has written Thomas senior's surname as Maynarg, followed by Margret as Maynard. Plus poor Lucy seems to be afterthought on the census - it isn't a mistake by me that she's been written last.
Kind regards,
Pels.

John's father was one William Maynard born approx 1865 Yorkshire. I know it`s a long shot but if anyone can supply any information regarding William that would be most helpful or any information regarding the family line.
I wonder if you meant approx 1765, this would fit for the burial of William :

I'm not sure whether it's evidence enough but Thomas's parents, John and Alice Mennard appear on the opposite page to the Appleby family on the 1841 census, they were also all living in Uppleby.

Thank you for all your contributions and help, particularly pels. You correctly identified that I had posted the wrong date of 1865, I have amended that error.
Some very useful points that I will take away from the exercise are that quite often the official documents vary the spelling of names and that place of birth does not always remain constant. I shall assimilate all the information and no doubt return with more queries. Thanks once again.

I am collecting YDNA from Maynard men whose ancestors were in North Carolina before 1770. I have proven five major lines are related. Now I am seeking Maynard men in the UK who know their ancestral lines back 200 years or more and who are willing to take a DNA test (at my expense) from www.ftdna.com. I have visited the Wass/Kilburn Parish area and found records on lots of Maynards from hundreds of years ago. Many of the first names match those in North Carolina, so I am hopeful of finding a Maynard male descended from this crowd. My phone number in the US is (*). Please let me know if you can help me.

I have collected DNA that links about 20 Maynard males in the US--all of whom had ancestors in North Carolina in about 1775. Do you know any living Maynard males in the UK who might be willing to contribute a cheek swab if pay for the lab analysis at www.ftdna.com ? My purpose is to find English relatives of the North Carolina descendants.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, so please forgive my ignorance, about certain things.
My father was Harry (Henry) Arnold Maynard and he was born at Flawith Farm in Easingwold North Yorkshire, in 1904 to Mary Jane Morrell or Morrill and Fred Maynard. His brothers and sisters that I knew of were Grace, Dorothy, Arthur and Ernest. I was told a few others died young? Now here's where things might seem a bit strange. My father had me very late in life, he was 59 years old, so in theory my grandma and grandad were born about 1864/65. I'm only 50, and when my father was alive I never asked those vital questions about my family, so I know virtually nothing. My father was married to Eva Maynard, but I'm to a different relationship he had, but was raised by him. Could anyone possibly help me find my roots, as I feel a bit lost in life, and if I have any relations out there. Having such an older father and family has made things a bit lonely for me. Hence, not that I would have changed it for the world!! Thank you!!
-
Hi Sassy, Your granddad Fred Maynard was born 1866 in Easingwold. There are two Mary Jane Morrell's born in Bradford one in 1867 and one in 1869 and there are three Mary Jane Morrill's two born in Malton one in 1865 and one in 1867 the third one was born in York in 1868. Which doesn't help as you have to narrow the Mary Janes down.

Where can I find a list of sources, including people, who report on Maynard ancestors in Yorkshire?
-
Hi,
The only thing I can suggest is you use your search engine and type in Maynard Genealogy Yorkshire and see what it comes up with. There are lots of posts on various websites about Maynards from Yorkshire, but it all comes down to which line of Maynards you are researching.
Wishing you well in your search.
