I am seareching for the parents of Charlotte White Sibley, born/baptised 14 January 1816 in Snitterby. Lincolnshire. On Family Search and the Waddingham Baptisimal records, her mother is shown as Elizabeth with no father shown.
I believe she is probably the sister of my wife's Gr. Gr. Grandfather, George Sibley, born/baptised 19 September 1813, Snitterby, Lincolnshire, and also shown the same mother in the Waddingham records. The middle name of White, maybe an indication of the mothers surname.
When George married in 1841, his father was shown as William, Farmer. I have searched for more Sibleys in the Lincolnshire County without much success. I did however find a William & Elizabeth Sibley buried in St. Alkmond, Blyborough, Lincolnshire. William was 69 when he died in 1826, and Elizabeth was 87 in 1849. However I don't think they are the parents as Elizabeth would have been 51n when George was born, and who knows, they could have been siblings. There is also a chance that the parents didn't actually grow up and live in the Lincolshire area, but from a surrounding county.
Can anyone help.
Regards,

Have you tried a general search for men in Snitterby with the surname White? There were only 183 inhabitants of Snitterby in 1801. Of course the father may have come from a nearby village, and perhaps Charlotte and George may even have different fathers? Have you checked for other children born to 'Elizabeth'? Did Elizabeth eventually marry?
George giving his fahter's name as William when he married may not be truthful, but more respectable in that situation than saying "unknown". :-\
Some people recommend bastardy records (though I have no experience with them myself), as Elizabeth may be seeking support from the father? There may be other records related to any financial assistance Elizabeth claimed?
I will leave it to the experts to advise you further. :)

Hi Wildcats13,
I hope this all makes sense.
What I am trying to say is that I think Elizabeth Sibley/Fillingham/Little is the Mother of George Sibley 1813 and Charlotte Sibley 1816.
She is born c 1793 and Married Charles FILLINGHAM 1818 and has Ann/Jane. Charles dies and she remarries William LITTLE 1836
What a shame they didnt wait til late 1837 as the Marriage Cert would be interesting!
Daug Charlotte 1816 has EMMA 1838 and all the Cenus data I have posted seems to confirm waht I have found.
Trish :)
EDIT Anthony EVERETT seems to have Married Jane GODMOND, Dec 1825, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorks allthough by 1841 Census info they are both born in Lincs
Seem to be a lot of County crossing going on here.

Hi Trish, Geoff and Ruskie,
Thanks to the three of you for some wonderful research. The collection of information now makes a lot of sense. After receiving your details this morning when I woke up, I found the nearest Family Search research office and spent an hour or so with some more wonderful people, and we come up with more details that proved a few things to me.
Charlotte's mother Elizabeth, was the daughter of William Sibley (1757-1826) and Elizabeth Calvert (1762-1849), both were born in Blyborough and were married in Northorpe, Lincolnshire, in 1787, and, are the ones I found that are buried at St Alkmond, Blyborough. There were another five children from this marriage.
Considering the details found of Elizabeth, I can understand George showing William as his father on his marriage cert., and we will never know whether Charles Fillingham could have been the father. We also found that Frederick Fillingham was the son of Ann Fillingham, and they think it appears he was 2 months old, not 2 years, as he was baptised on 19 September 1842.
I have found Elizabeth Calvert's parents, but will have to keep looking for husband William Sibley's parents.

Hi Wildcats13,
I am so happy for you, and I must say this was one of the most satisfying pieces of detective work I have had for ages.
Without finding Emma Sibleys Christening this may have never worked out.
All the best,
Trish :)
-
Thanks Trish,
I hope I can get back further on the Sibley side by finding William's parents. Don't think it's going to be easy
Cheers,
Wildcats13

Hi Trish,
Do you think you can do so more digging for me. I have had confirmed today all the earlier information that was found earlier, through a family tree that involved Elizabeth Sibley's sister Sarah Sibley and Jane Fillingham. Unable to confirn William's parents, but have details on Elizabeth Calvert's parents.
Trying to close the book on Charlotte and daughter Emma. Don't know whether they married or when & where they died. Have tried the Parish Register and every other access I could use without success. We know from earlier details that they both were alive in 1861 Census in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Chances of finding William's parents appear remote, although I keep hoping.

Hi Trish & Geoff.
Well you two have done it again. What you have presented makes a lot of sense to me now. I know we have the right marriage for Charlotte with William Reynolds because of their son James.
When George Sibley died in London in 1885, his son William sent a letter to his brother George in Australia, advising that his father had passed away (we have a copy of the letter). When explaining who attended the funeral, the following is a transcription;
"There were 7 of us attending the funeral Hugh, Tom, John, Uncle John Bateman, Cousin John Summerley, Cousin James Reynolds from Lincolnshire, who is presently studying at Oxford, and is a Minister of the Church of England, and myself. There were no ladies. Mother of course was unwell, and the girls decidd to stay at home and keep her company".
I have been trying for some time to connect James Reynolds to the Sibley family without success until now, so thanks for explaining that part of my search, together with who Charlotte married. Do you know whether the Church keep records that can be accessed on line regarding past clergy and whether he married.
Did you find anything on Charlotte's daughter Emma after the 1851 Census where she was with her grandparents William & Elizabeth Little? Did she marry, as I haven't been able to find her death entry anywhere?. Also is there anything on Mary Reynolds as well?
Once again, thanks so much. You should offer yourselves to the Government for Cold Case solving. I look foward to hearing from you again soon.

A naughty girl who has 2 illeg Children, her Daug goes on to Marry a Policeman and then has a Son a Preacher!
What a Movie Script ;)
-
I have been unable to find anything for Emma sorry.
-
It certainly sounds like a good story. I have already found a living cousin of my wife in Devon that published a book at the age of 92 and Hollywood people have been to see her recently to consider turning it into a movie. It was based on a lot of notes from before and including WW2, that she had written and stored in an old case and eventually put together.
It is a shame about Emma, and I don't hold out much hope of finding the parents of William Sibley, but thanks for your great help so far. I am getting close to putting together a book on the Sibley family line and wanted to tick all the boxes if I could.

This is my opinion and others may disagree, but to get back to a Birth 1757 with all info confirmed would satisfy me.
Going back any further unless the ancestors were well off and records were available on them, is purely guesswork.
All the best,
Trish :)
EDIT Emma may turn up elsewhere in the future I am sure. She may have even emigrated.
-
With the help of others, we have found Emma married a Thomas Storey in 1870 in Sheffield, Yorkshire.after his first wife Sarah Shipham died in December 1866 in Glanford Brigg.
It appears she had one son, Arthur Charles Storey in the March Qtr. 1869 in Gatehall, Southcoates, Hull, Yorkshire, however I can find no marriage or death details about him. Will keep looking.
Thanks to everyone who helped so far.
Regards.

Hello,
we seem to have some genealogy interests in common. I research Russells in N. Lincolnshire and have a number of people you mention in some of your posts on my tree - notably Colton Filliungham Russell (my gguncle) and Jane Fillingham (my gg.grandmother)
Would be interested to hear from you and exchange information.
