Title: Baptism Lookup Please - Whitchelo
Post by: abro49 on Thursday 02 February 12 15:37 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I am looking for the baptisms of James and Sarah Whitchelo children in Reading.  I think they were married on 28th Nov 1824 in Reading.  This is what I know so far.....

Emma         1832  Reading
Eliza           1834  St Giles, Westminster
Henry         1838  St Giles, Westminster

I cannot find any children between 1824 and 1832.  It is possible they could be on the non conformist register.  Also I do not know Sarahs maiden name, so any help on that would be much appreciated.

Thanks to anyone who can help

Regards,
Ann

A birth cert of a child born after 1837 (i.e Henry) would give you mother's maiden name.

Hello Ann

I've checked the  BFHS transcripts for the 3 main parishes in Reading and there are no baptisms of children to a James & Sarah Whitchelo, there is however the marriage in st Giles in 1821 of a Robert Whitchelo to Sarah Bowden and they have 3 children baptised between 1826 - 1835 In St Giles Reading.

Could your James have changed his name?

Thanks ever so much for looking Paul,

I don't think James would have changed his name, but it's certainly something to look at.

Thanks again for your help

Ann

Hi  Ann

I cant see the marriage of James & Sarah in the current Berks marriage index so as you suggested it may well have been a non -conformist marriage and baptisms, so perhaps as these transcripts are not yet available from the BFHS, some kind person may be able to check at the BRO for you
