Title: Pendleton Colliery
Post by: sossle on Tuesday 07 February 12 17:40 GMT (UK)
Would anyone know where exactly Pendleton Colliery was? I know there was also an Agecroft Colliery. I have found some information on it but not where it was.
Also where would I find photos of Pendeton Colliery?

Many Thanks

  Sue

Favourite place to look would be in the place of the same name - there's an entry on Wikipedia about it - but there could easily be others in the Lancashire coalfield, named after a colliery owner, since it is a common surname.

Update: The Wikipedia article has co-ordinates showing it just south of Agecroft Cemetery.

Hi Sue,

There's a map here...

..which might give you some idea.

Pendleton colliery is top left on the map

 Thank you both.

Brilliant!  I looked at the map & now know where it was. I have an old map but it ends at the beginning of Whit Lane. From there I know exactly where it was.
Yes it was South of Agecroft Cemetry
