I have been given a photograph of a police constable and via his number and the Glamorgan County Police Records at GRO I have identified him as PC James Ings, born 1870, Rhymney, Mon. I found the following family on the 1881:
Gynol House Bedwellty, Monmouth, Wales
RG11/5247/134/42
Henry INGS, Head, 50, Hostler, b Dorset, England
Ann INGS, Wife, 40, Cardigan, Wales
John AMOS, Step-son, U, 19, coal miner, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth
Thomas INGS, son, U, 18, Hostler, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth
Sarah A. INGS, daug, 15, scholar, Merthyr, Glamorgan
James INGS, son, 10, scholar, Rhymney, Monmouth
Henry INGS, son, 6, scholar, Rhymney, Monmouth
George INGS, son, 5, scholar, Rhymney, Monmouth
Can someone please locate James Ings on the 1891 and 1901? He joined the police force in Jan 1892, so his occupation on the later will be police constable.
Thanks, Roy

1901 he's at the Police Station in Market Street, Dowlais RG13/5028 folio 85 pg 8, along with 13 other constables, 2 sergeants and an inspector & his family.
Can't spot him straight off in 1891, but I imagine the name lends itself to mistranscription.

Hi David
Thanks for getting in touch, sorry for my delay in replying but laid up with a nasty water infection which has kept me confined to bed for the best part of three days; sleeping. Will be in touch when I'm back on my feet.
