Title: confused about this area
Post by: katykat on Saturday 03 March 12 16:11 GMT (UK)
hello, I've moved on from my Shropshire relatives to my Norfolk/Cambridgeshire relatives and I'm having a bit of trouble identifying the areas. A couple of generations of the Gagen family list their birthplace as Terrington St Clements Norfolk, and its also described as Terrington St Clements Cambridgeshire. According to the enumerator report in one of the censuses, this is one & the same place. But when i Google terrington, its listed as Norfolk only. I think this is why I'm having trouble tracing the birth of one of them. The info I got from a member connect in Ancestry suggest that Fuller Gagen was born in 1810, but I can only find Fuller Gagen, b. 1840 ( his son) and another Fuller gagen b. 1870 ( maybe his grandson). I cant find any parish records for this area. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I dont know where the other member got this information from and cant find any links in that persons family tree.
A little bit more info --- Fuller Gagen b. 1810. Married Charlotte Curry in 1833. Ch Jonathon 1834, Sarah, Fuller, Charloote, Mary, James 1845 ( this is our direct ancestor), Dinah, jane, frederick.
Any help appreciated.

From GenUKI:

For the civil registration of births, marriages and deaths between 1837 and 1930 (and for the censuses from 1851 to 1901), Terrington St Clement was in Wisbech Registration District.

That doesn't mean that Terrington was actually in Cambridgeshire!
