Has anyone any connection to this lady?I have sent for her marriage certificate but meantime cannot find anything else that is accurate. They lived in Hampshire & I know about Frank Symonds who is my relative. He came from Sussex so don`t know where the Kent connection came in unless she worked away from her home.Perhaps someone can say.

Have you found them together on any census after their marriage?
It should tell you where and when she was born.
What children did they have and where/when.

Many thanks for all your input.I am a direct descendant of these people. As we know there were many incorrect details on the census & I do not think this Mary was born in Havant.Their marriage was in Malling in Kent so I assume that she hailed from that county. There was a Mary who married a George Deadman(the Deadmans intermarried with the Symonds & they also came from Sussex to Hampshire)but is not this lady.I can follow them down to myself but would like to discover exactly who she was

Do you have their 1880 marriage cert, who does it name for her father, what does he do and who were the witnesses?
Can't see her for sure anywhere before 1891 ::)

Sarah Trodd who is a Niece in 1901 has parents Thomas Trodd bn c1859 Warblington and Mary bn c1856 Hambledon, Hampshire - are these Franks relations?
In 1861 Thomas Trodd is at home with parents John and Mary and several siblings including
Mary Trodd age 11 bn Havant, Hampshire :-\

That'll teach me to read the whole thread :-[
We may be able to find out more for you once it arrives ;D

This one is bothering me!!
I don't think the Malling marriage is yours.
Job and Emily Treadwell 1881 in Malling...with daughter and son-in-law Mary and Frank Symonds. Doesn't that look more like the couple??
Now:
With George and Mary Deadman in Westbourne in 1881 -Frank Simmonds.
I would almost swear that the woman who ends up with Frank is Mary Deadman nee Trodd. (I know you said it wasn't but gosh it looks like her!!!).
Also-I couldn't find a birth for young Walter...unless it's this one???
Births Dec 1881
DEDMAN Walter Westbourne 2b 423
Just my ramblings! ;)

There is a 69 year old Henry Trodd with the Symonds in 1911.
-
Hi, I can answer that for you as I'm a direct descendant of Mary Treadwell !!!
In 1881 they were living at Hook Wood in Shipbourne. Mary Symonds (nee Treadwell) and her husband Frank were living with Mary's parents, Job & Emily Treadwell.
If you need any more help let me know. I have the Treadwell family back to 1703.

Wow this is very interesting. My Symonds family is quite difficult to unravel at times as there were so many who gave their offspring the same names,& then sometimes used their 2nd.name.i.e.Frank`s younger brother was baptised as Thomas Walter but called Walter.I was actually sent from Hawaii a copy of our family tree that had been done by a researcher for an American relative so I know that this Frank is of my direct line.He appears in the 1871 census, now 16years old.I was in the records office in Sussex a few years ago as I couldn`t trace the next census & was told that some records for 1881 are not available as they were taken by the Mormons.By the 1891 census Frank was married to a Mary ?? & had relocated to Hants(Waterlooville). For sometime I have searched for their marriage certificate & recently was given the name Mary Treadwell & the date etc. as most probably correct. The Symonds,Trodd & Dedman families all came originally from Sussex being intermarried then strangely they mostly moved en masse to Hampshire(although there are still Trodds in Sussex from the original group) & for a bit continued to intermarry & be involved together in businesses.Maureen- I am pretty sure that is not the same Mary who married George Dedman.I followed them onwards & in a later census it shows them married for X years which doesn`t fit even supposing George was a 2nd husband.I will certainly report what is on this marriage certificate as I may yet again be going up another blind alley. Please bear with me as I live abroad & it may take a bit longer than usual to arrive.Wozzle -that 1901 census is correct. My grandfather(another)Frank did not appear with his family as he had enlisted in the Army.

Have just seen the post from Joobles-will send you a PM & perhaps you can settle this! How amazing,Rootschat is so helpful.
-
To get Mary's maiden name for sure- you would be best to get a birth cert of one of the children.
Costing just £9-25, it will save you hours of searching for possibly the wrong family :)

I may be muddying your waters unnecessarily - my apologies if this is not relevant - but I have a cousin Harriet Deadman b.1877 Northfleet, Kent who married Richard Symons in 1893, Richard was from Croydon. They had a son Richard who was born in Northfleet.

PM sent with the info. you need.
I did all my research 25 years ago, way before we had computers and websites in our homes - using original registers - those were the days !!
Just ask if I can help you further.

Good luck!
I see you've tried this before:

I really don't think Mary (Trodd) Deadman was free to marry.
I may be crazy but the child with them (Mary Jane) in 1871 looks an awful lot like the Jane who married Samuel Dr"dge. In 1901 and 1911 they are with a George D*man.

Jooles has supplied me with details of Mary Treadwell which I have followed & now I think I truly was going up a blind alley with this name. The husband Frank of THIS Mary was born a few years before the Frank Symonds I am related to & his birthplace is given as different too. Many thanks for all your comments, but it`s back to the drawing board for me.Yes indeed I have tried previously Maureen with another (Mary) name I was given.I shall now do as Carol suggests,& send for one of the children`s birth certificates.

Hi all
I know the thread is old but I've only just found and joined the group.
My great great grandfather was Thomas Dedman (Deadman), presumably part of the Sussex Dedman family. He was born in Telscomb but moved to Fawkham, Longfield, Kent in the late 1700s. He is presumably an ancestor of Harriet Deadman, mentioned by Moscatella.
I would be interested in the Sussex Dedman clan. Thomas' father and grandfather were from Telscomb, married, I believe, to Mary Mitchener and Sarah? Sourk, respectively.
Best regards
Mike Deadman
