Hi, and welcome to Rootschat, the only one that seems to be linked to possibly your Ned, is the thread Custom House Burning-Part 1/John Wilson which was started by Gary Deering?

Hi mbreslin

Make one more public posting (to make 3 in total) , and then you can send a Private Message to "'Seanod" via the Rootschat Private Messages. This may be your best best to get hold of him as a PM should go (hopefully) feed through to his email address - he has not been on Rootschat for a year.

So reply to me here, and that makes your 3 postings!

Cheers

This is my first message to roots scan and i joined due to the fact that i am doing research in Commandant Edmund (Ned) Breslin as well. My grandfather was Daniel Breslin who was Neds brother and also served in the national army. I am from Derry where Ned and Daniel where from and grew up with some information about Ned and as i have become older i am more and more interested in his story and how his life and service in both the IRA and the Irish Army in a reflection of our troubled history. I am a child of the present confict and again some of the Breslin clan had become involved in the present conflict and as in Neds time we did all see eye to eye as to the way forward and some of the family did lose their lives in the troubles. I would be very interested in contacted Ned grandchild as we are related.

Hi Gerrycass

Make one more posting on this topic (ie: reply to this posting from me), that will then make you 3 topics posted on Rootschat and able to use the private messaging (PM)section.

To PM,  Mbreslin click on his name in the above left panel next to his postings, and scroll down in the new window to see the option to Send this Rootschatter Personal Message  (click the link).

You can also access the PM section from the top of this screen - it will say:

Hi Taral i have already done quite a bit on the Breslin family tree but i would be interested in viewing any info you have. I am really interested in Edmund's military career. I have an overview of the various roles he played but would love to see a copy of his military history. Are you related to the Breslins?. My mother was Mary Breslin from Derry. Look forward to a reply, are you directly related to Edmund (Ned)

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

No, I'm not related at all I'm afraid. I'm just someone who like to help people with their family trees !

Have you tried posting on this site

 forum (http://irishgenealogyqueries.yuku.com/search/text/?q=the+squad&orderby=created_at&forum=&submit=Search+Forum)

They often mention 'The Squad'

Ned is mentioned in a few witness statements on the Bureau of Military History website - see Breslin (http://www.bureauofmilitaryhistory.ie/bmhsearch/search.jsp?querystr=breslin)

Hi gerrycass  i'm part of the Breslin clan as well, in Derry also. Grew up in Dunree gdns  My Grandfather (John) was Ned's brother too.  Have found all your digging about family tree etc when I googled Edmund's name.  Great work your doing & very interesting. Little talk about Edmund in our family just knew the basics but would like also to know where he ended up living in Ireland Reading on a different website it's believed he married a sister of somebody he was supposed to have executed (don't no if this is true or not) but have discovered he is buried in Balgriffin cemetery near Dublin airport.    http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=breslin&GSfn=ned&GSiman=1&GScid=2305089&GRid=37159549&

Maybe you've already got this info and if you want to send a private msg feel free. I've just registered.

Hi.my grandfather capt thomas o'doherty was in the squad with ned breslin.there are 2 photos on line one of dublin guard he's standing be side ned.
He's olso in the wedding photo.
You won't find any army files on them as they won't release information. There files are in dublin castle and are flaged for to be held .nothing in any government is to be released on squad.cahal brugh files are only light on  where they fought and every files is whittled down ie gone throught.
My grandfather fought heavely with ned and at one time stayed in thomas house.44 new st dublin as did collins.
Hope this is of help.they deny there's files but by crooked way I know exactly where they are.but if released they might change history .I cant see it in my life.god bless ned.thomas mooney

Thomas many thanks for replying to the post on my gran uncle Ned. It is great to get any information on both Ned and his comrades. Can you let me know if you can which one in the wedding photo is your grandfather Thomas. I have managed to get plenty of information on Ned since I first posted on this site but still a lot of information missing and your reply has been very helpful in adding to his story. I have been to the Military archives in Dublin but of course you are right there is very little information in his file. I have the honour of attending the Custom House commemoration each year to remember Ned and his comrades who attacked the building. once again I am very grateful to you for sharing some of your grandfathers story with me, I hope that he and his comrades are now resting in peace.
