Title: COMPLETED Sunderland Echo 1924 look up please
Post by: annie24b on Tuesday 08 May 12 20:05 BST (UK)
Would anyone be able to have a look in Sunderland Echo archives for 1924 to see if there is a death notice for David Robert BAXTER please?
He died in Bordeaux France, but I can't find a burial anywhere. I've already been in contact with Bordeaux but the hospital he died in no longer exists!

Thanks

Annie

The Northern Echo is based in Darlington and Sunderland is a bit out the range of this paper.

The Sunderland Echo is a different paper altogether.

For the period I was checking, the Echo did cover many interesting stories from around the North East, not just the Darlington area.  Plenty of inquest reports too. :)

Hi, Sorry, I hadn't forgot about you  :)
I wasn't able to go to the Echo Library until today but unfortunately I cannot find anything in the archives going back to 1924. The earliest Echo I could find was 1939.
I will make a few enquiries to see where I can get any later copies but I'm not holding my breath. Sorry.

Hi I Will,

thanks for looking. It was a long shot, guess I'll never know where he's buried!   :(

thanks again

Just to update, I now know where he was buried.
I 'bit the bullet' and sent for the log book for the ship he was on, and it states that he is buried in the Bordeaux Protestant Cemetery on 18th June 1924. His accident was on 13th June and he died without regaining conciousness.
I don't think there would be a marker and if there was I couldn't go to see it, but its great to finally know where he ended up.
