Can anyone help me.
Today I was told by my mother that her aunt had told her some years ago that she (the aunt) had an uncle that murdered his wife by cutting her throat and she beleives he was executed
This would be actually be an uncle to my grandmother we cant confirm this as my grandmother died when my mother was 4
We beleive it would be in the Cheshire
any idea where I could look to verify this

Thanks Jane, gruesome but very interesting.

Nessie,
If you have a date range and name, I can check the London Time archives for you....
they frequently published notices about mayhew, etc.

Thanks for the link to the executions,
Unfortunately I am struggling to find the maiden name of my gt grandmother, which I think may help in pinpoint if any of these are my "alleged" murderer
but this is indeed very interesting reading

Have you any names and dates so we can help you. What do you want to find out?

It is Lillians sister that told my mother about the uncle
We know Lillians maiden name was Philips/Phillips but I cant find out any further than that
And we only know the murderer cut the throat of his wife

There is a Lilian Phillips born on the Wirral June quarter 1903. Could this be her as Cheshire and the Wirral are side by side?

Hiya,
Probably not a connection but my paternal grandfather, William John Corbett, killed his pregnant wife, Ethel Louisa Jones, by cutting her throat in March 1931. This occurred in Glamorgan Wales. He was hanged at Cardiff prison in August 1931.
Looks like the area wasn't the same for you?
I'm certain I must have some living relatives on my father's side as they had quite big families.
I found the British Library most helpful. I sent them the sketchy details I had and they came up with 8 newspaper articles of the time. One of them was an obituary for my grandmother which included loads of relatives' names.
All the best!

Hello Willowah ;)
I dont know if this is any help but I have a Phillips surname in my family tree.
Mary Ryan m Frederick Phillips in Birkenhead or Seacombe Cheshire.
Frederick was born around 1895-1905 I am searching for details at the moment.
Now Mary Ryan had a sister called May Agnes Ryan(my maternal grandmother)
May Agnes m Reginald Edwin Hannah.
Reginald had a sister called Gertrude and a sister called Jessie Hannah.
Jessie Hannah m Patrick Herbert Mahon.
Patrick was hanged in 1924 for murdering his mistress Emily Kaye.He actually dissected her and was very gruesome.
It was a famous case known as "Murders on the Crumble" or 'The Bungalow Murders"
It maybe the person you are looking for.If you type in the words in the google search bar that I have put in brackets the details will come up.
Sorry to have met you on these circumstances but hope to hear from you soon and on a lighter note.
Cheers and Happy New Year :)

You really need to obtain a copy of Lily's marriage certificate since you know this is correct and find out Lily's father's name and occupation. From that you can try for a search on the 1901 census for him or if this 1901 census entry is confirmed work from that.
