I found this tree on the net.....

William Vollans was born 1747, and died 1834 in Brayton, Yorks.  He met Elizabeth Middleton 1772 in Selby, daughter of Timothy Middleton and Elizabeth.

See No.4 on the tree.

It lists all their children and all born in Brayton (where I live!)

Where are brayton registers held, do you know?

They are held at the Borthwick Institute of Historical Research at York University (just google it for details).

Fenton is written as Fentiman on the tree I posted to you. Sarah is on the list.

Just let me know exactly what bits of info you require and I will do my best....

Hello

Thanks so much for your offer to help. I would love to know if there is a gravestone to a Timothy Middleton born around 1725. In fact any Middleton's would be good if you have time to look around the graveyard and inside the church. Timothy seems to be an enigma.

Many thanks

Simon

On the old familysearch site there is a Timothy Middleton christened on 30 Dec 1721 at Kirkby Wharfe between Tadcaster and Ulleskelf. Father shown as Anthony Middleton, mother not shown.
No details for Anthony.

This village is only something like 6-7 miles away from Brayton/Selby.

Could this be the right Timothy?

Here is a list of all the Middletons in Brayton Between 1700-1900 recorded on familysearch.org...no Timothy though!

I have been to St. Wilfreds church in Brayton this morning for half an hour armed with notepad and camera.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to record as all the oldest gravestones (nearest to the church as per usual) are not standing headstones but laid flat on their back. This has meant that over time uncut grass, mud, soil etc has splattered over them and therefore most of them are overgrown.

When you could clear away the dirt and see them most of the inscriptions had worn away on most of them. The ones I could read I couldn't find any Middleton graves.

Looks as though you may have to contact the Borthwick Institute at York University to see if they can do some searching for you.....

I took some photos of the church and churchyard for you to give you some idea what it is like nowadays.... I will PM them to you...

I mentioned Kirkby Wharfe earlier....that is just up the road from Ulleskelf so that really could be him....

There is also a row of houses in Ulleskelf called Middleton Terrace....

Hi Simon

My husband is a descendant of William Vollans and Frances Fenton

Their daughter Mary was married to William Vouse (Voase)

Mary and William died of cholera a day apart in Selby 6/7 October 1849

I have been trying to find Frances Fentons baptism/birth/christening would you know it? A census record suggests born Brayton from memory (cant check at moment)

Hello

I am descended from Mary Vollans' sister Sarah 1816-1909. I believe Frances Fenton was born in Thorpe Willoughby part of Brayton. I do not know where the records for Brayton are but have asked the priest there so hopefully we can get this sorted. Have you any Vollans pictures?

Thank you for the information on Frances's siblings and the Thorpe Willougby lead.  I have only really started looking into this family.  Happy to share any thing I may find  :)
I see William and Frances had a son Benjamin, I have not often come across that name in records from olden days.  Is that a reason you believe Benjamin to be Frances's father?

No I have a copy of the marriage certificate which states Benjamin as her father

Hello,
I am new to rootschat and your thread is the first that caught my eye.  I am researching the line of Elizabeth Middleton and William Volans, decended from their son Samuel Volans of Nova Scotia.  I am using this line to teach history homeschooling and would love to learn more about Brayton and anything else you can share :)
