Title: Trying to trace Irish ancestors- WALSH, Galway

I am starting a genealogical tree in an effort to trace my ancestry.  Many of these ancestors came from Ireland (hence the section!) however much about the ancestors remains a mystery to me.  Perhaps some of you may be able to provide me with some more information.

The following are the ancestors and the information which I know about them:

John Walsh- Spiddal, Galway, Ireland; Born 22 May 1896; Old-IRA courier; Price on head after Irish Civil War
Norah (Surname Unknown)- Connemara, Galway, Ireland; Born 07 December 1906; Mother was the Postmaster (only literate individual)


All of the Above emigrated to the USA at various times.

Welcome to Rootschat. If you'd like help with finding more information on your family you'll need to provide more details and tell us exactly what you need help with. Also, having more than one family name in the one topic might cause confusion for those trying to help.
Therefore, I'm going to re-name this WALSH, Galway and move it to the GALWAY board. You can then start a new topic on David family on CORK board if you like.

Alright, I wanted to avoid multiple threads, as I know some forums get a bit cheesed off when you make em... but in this case I will then....

Well Im looking for more information such as who the parents were, any emigration records (leaving)  and the like. Other than that, that is as much as I know!

Remember that Walsh  is pronounced " Welsh" in Ireland, and as  Spidall is in the Gaeltacht, ie. Irish speaking, the name could be recorded as Breathnac(h), approx pronounced "Brannak"

Hello and welcome to Rootschat  :)

Taking a look at Irish census - 1901 and 1911 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ for John Walsh doesn't give much information. I used Spiddal as the DED search so that was generally the right area you mention.

Did John marry in Ireland or USA?

Do you have any records which would give you Norah's maiden name?

John did not marry in the USA.  He actually married (twice) in the USA. 

Im gonna see if anyone else in the family knows the last name... maybe the source didn't know...

If it helps, Johns brother was imprisoned and 3 more were killed....   The inmate brother was later released to die of TB at home.
