Hi tommo

If you post what you know of the family, I'm sure there are lots of people waiting to help!!  :)

Do you know whereabouts in gloucestershire they lived?  What sort of dates?  Do you have any of them on census returns or records of their births, marriages or deaths?

If you can give this sort of information it helps identify your family.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Thanks for that tommo!

Do you have them on any census returns at all?

I know there are not many by that name, so will have a quick look for you.

I don't understand - what records do you want help with?

I can find the family in 1901 in Westmorland.

Is it census returns or births?  for births after 1901 you would be best to consult 1837online (pay-per-view site)

This could be him in 1891 (and makes me wonder whether I read his wife's name correctly in 1901, it was very faint)

Modified: have checked and it is definitely Emma wife and daughter

RG12/4336  2  55  48

PIDSLEY William H M 23 - General labourer - b Somerset Taunton
PIDSLEY Fanny W M 19 - b Mon Chepstow
PIDSLEY Elizabeth dau 2 wks - b ditto

Address: 2 Davis Court, Chepstow, Mon

p.s.  You can view the 1881 census online at familysearch.com and try freebmd for a marriage ( or marriages??)

Earlier census returns - you may have to post in Somerset, Devon or Monmouthshire!!

Hi tommo

You now need to ask a specific question, that does not cover the old ground in your previous posts.  It is not fair on those who sepnd their time doing look-ups to go over things time and again.

What you are trying to establish is very important to you and genuinely interesting to others BUT you need to capitalise now on the information you already have.  Have you tried sending for any certificates or looking on 1837 online ?

Please let us know what you have found out since your last post and what new info you need.  Many of us will be only too pleased to help with new lines of enquiry.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)l

Well tommo, you seem to be making some progress with this!

It is a good idea to set out what you know, both to clarify your own thoughts and to help us out - there is a lot to get our heads around!!

I understand it is Dorothy's birth that you are trying to clarify the details of?  Have you got a birth cert for her now?  I saw on another post that you think the father is BIRTWHISTLE?

I had a look for BIRTWHISTLEs in the Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire areas in 1901, but there are none.  A lot could have changed between 1901 and Dorothy's conception!

Is there anything else we can look for to help you?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

i am also looking to find the dates of death for all the family can you help me with that please

Hi tommo

First you need to check www.freebmd.org.uk (http://www.freebmd.org.uk) to see which of the family's deaths appear on the site.  Narrow it down by looking inthe counties you know they lived in and using the approximate dates you already know. You are lucky!  PIDSLEY is already an unusual name, so you have an advantage.

Having checked for those, if you still can't find them, you can post a very specific request along the lines of "looking for the death of Dorothy PIDSLEY around 1903" (or whatever) and ask for a BVRI2 look-up.  These are done for people whose names are not already available on freebmd.

If the names are not on BVRI2 either, you will need to use the pay-per-view site www.1837online.com (http://www.1837online.com) to try to find them.

I hope this helps,

Arranroots  ;)

Hi,
I hope you do not mind me contacting you but I am also serching the name Olive.Hilda.Sophia.Pidsley, this was my wifes grandmother 1901 - 1984. To try and clarify if this is the same person, I have the following information: She was born in Wales, possibly Monmouth and married a Reginald Walter or Walter Reginald Evans. They had 2 sons, - All I know about the sons is that one was born on the 27th July 1937.
They also owned a shop in Park street, Madeley, Telford called W.R.Evans bakers and confectioners?
Would this be the same person as you are also searching?
Regards
Alan

Hi Carol,
Olive was my father's mum, I am now like you trying to research the family history.  Olive was buried at Castle green cemetery, the funeral was held at St.Michaels church in Madeley, Telford.
Could you please expand a little on your side of the family as we may be related in some way via the family tree - very interesting!!
