Title: COMPLETED WITH THANKS Helpringham - Old Manor House?
Post by: AngelFish on Tuesday 11 September 12 19:16 BST (UK)
Hello everyone

I have a reference to "Old Manor House" in Helpringham from a 1945 newspaper.  I am trying to find out where Old Manor House is (or was).

I know there is a large old house at The Green in Helpringham that has been empty for many years, which lincsheritage.org and GENUKI call "Helpringham Manor Farmhouse" or "Helpringham Manor".

I don't know if these are the same house. Please can anyone help me find "Old Manor House" Helpringham.

Thank you. Angelfish

"old maps" link    http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html

Click on link. Enter co-ordinates 513922  340620 + hit "Go".
When all maps finished loading, click on "Enlarge map" for "1889 Pre WWII Lincolnshire"
When 1889 old map loaded into main window, click on main window (to zoom).

"Manor House" is immediately south of "The Green", near the Vicarage.

According to Kelly's Directory, Lincolnshire, 1913, the Manor House was occupied by Joseph Carter Barnes.

regards

Thanks to you both, hanes teulu and Geoff.  The links are wonderful, and thank you for the extra Kelly's information, it's helpful.
