Hello,
I am searching for the death of John Handley between 1844 and 1851.
His youngest child William Handley was baptised at St Martins 26th May 1844, although I havent seen the original.
His wife Hannah is a widow on the 1851 census.
Thank you
-
Hi Olner Rose,
There is a registered death for a John Handley in West Bromwich Oct/Nov/Dec 1844
Volume 18, page 452.
Could this be him?
Cathy ;D
-
Hi Cathy,
I really dont know, I thought Dudley was the district, but have already purchased one death certificate that was wrong.
Thats why I was hoping a burial may show up for him at St Martins.
-
Unfortunately there's nine possible deaths in Staffordshire for John Handley between 1844 and 1851.
Knowing my luck it will be the ninth one I buy :-\
Thanks anyway

They had 4 children in Nuneaton then 4 more in Tipton.

Hi Lorraine
I have found this Burial Record
John Handley
Buired 30 Jan 1842
St Bartholomew Wednesbury Staffordshire
Age 34
Abode Tipton
A couple of theories, I know William was christened in 1844 was that his birth year, or could Hannah have got pregnant after he died with someone else??????

Hi Margp
Thank you for looking, I have purchased that certificate and there's nothing on it to help either way.
Only that the John Handley on that one was a boatman, and mine was a brickmaker when in Nuneaton.
I bought it before I found William Handley on a later census with his remarried mother.
I have ordered William's birth certificate this week hoping for a clue

Hi
Have you found John and Hannah on the 1841 census, they married in 1829 they should be on there
Marg
-
Hi,
No not a trace of them or their children in 1841.
Only have Hannah and family back in Nuneaton in 1851 as a widow and the
4 children born in Tipton
Lorraine

That should read 4 extra children :-[

Hi
I see that William b 1844 is not with the rest of the family in 1851, have you found the marriage for Charles Smith and Hannah, it may be worth checking some of John and Hannah's children's births/marriages to see what there fathers occupation was.
I have found 8 possible children for John and Hannah do you have them all.
I have checked the 1851 census for William b 1844 with no luck, also the 1841 census for the rest of the of the family with the same result.
Lets hope William's BC can give you some answer's
Margp
-
Hi Donna,
Thanks for that, at least it narrows it down to 3.
Shame no ages are given.
Lorraine
-
Hi Margp
Yes I have 8 children. I have seen the parish records for the 4 Nuneaton children and John is a brickmaker.
William doesnt turn up till 1861 on the census, then hes on the next page to the rest of the family which is why I missed him for so long.
Would love William bc to say father John Handley deceased, but unlikely ;D
Would you happen to know where the parish records for St Martins are kept?
I could try emailing them to do a burial search if thats possible?

Hi Lorraine
I have found the following
The register of St Martin, Tipton, commences in 1573. The original registers for the period 1573-1901 (Bapts), 1573-1900 (Mar) & 1573-1865 (Bur) are deposited at Staffordshire Record Office.

Marg
-
Hi Lorraine
Did you find the marriage for Charles Smith and Hannah
Marg
I have just found the marriage 31 March 1851 Chilvers Coton Warwick,
-
Hi Marg,
Yes Ive just viewed it.
They didnt have any children together.
John and Hannahs children all had father desceased when they married.
I will have to wait for Williams bc which should be here Friday fingers crossed.
Lorraine
-
I now have Williams bc.
He was born 28 April 1844 and his birth was registered 7 June 1844 by his father.
John Handley, brickmaker, Ocker Hill.
As they had a child every 2 years and William was the last i'm going to assume for now that John died between June 1844 and 1847.
Also as i'm trying to find Johns age, on his marriage to Hannah hes a widower,
but theres a witness called John Handley junior.
Could that have his son and if so where children allowed to be witnesses?
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

Does this mean a Coroners report? and if so, could someone please point me in the right direction. This is a first for me.
