Would someone be so kind as to look up the location of a grave please?
Name: John Tock
Burial Date: 16 Feb 1917
Burial Place: Althorpe, Lincoln, England
I'm not sure if he would be buried at St Oswalds in Althorpe or possibly over at St Nicholas churchyard cemetery in Thorne. I have been told he is not in the Thorne-Moorends municipal cemetery as it did not open until the 1920's.
Could anyone please help/advise?
Regards
Ray

Hi, there is a John Tock buried 16th February 1917 on Althorpe parish registers, entry number 1850.
Hope that is of some help to you.

Hi Ray, just to add to the above his place of residence is shown on the record as being at Keadby. :)

thank you. It does appear he may be in the "new" graveyard over the road from St Oswalds. Sadly it appears that both grounds were levelled and headstones removed in the 1960's.
He was a keelboat captain as was his son. My 2nd and 3rd great grandfathers. He was born and died in Althorpe and spent most of his life with the family on a keelboat traversing the canals and the humber to Hull (where my family now resides).

Hi, so glad that I was of some help but find it very sad that the grounds have been levelled and any headstones possibly removed :( :(

thank you.
I have now spoken to the current vicar of St Oswalds who has put me in touch with a parish councillor who has kindly offered to have a look for some details for me. The headstones were indeed removed and either stood around both burial areas or used as paving stones around the church.

No word from the parish councilor on this one, however, I have found 22 "tock's" in the Althorpe cemetery using the national burial index so have ordered a copy of the MI's from Isle of Axholme FHS.

Hi Ray,
I live in the parish of Althorpe & Keadby & can confirm the old grave site next to Saint Oswald's Church was levelled but the new site wasn't. The old headstones were placed either around the church or against the boundary wall. Unfortunately many are not legible anymore.
Any memorials placed in the new site would still be there. I'm happy to go take a look?
Best wishes
Pauline
