Hi - I'm a descendant from James Illman 1825 of Nutfield. I'm new here so not totally sure how it all works - I can trace from James and Caroline (Lawrence) Illman to myself, but can't find out who James's parents are?

On his baptism record it says his parents are John and Sarah Illman, but I've been struggling to find who they are - the only John and Sarah Illman I've found on the 1851 census are living in Gloucester -  which could be possible but unlikely as all my other relatives I have found have all come from Sussex/Surrey.

I posted ages ago!
Thankyou for the information but not sure why I asked!
My Gx 2 grandfather Josiah Illam was born 1820 Burstow son of Richard and Mary Illman.
The family moved to Strood Kent not sure when but Richard remarried 1835 in Strood.
Best wishes from Perth Australia.🦘🎄🦘

Following up
There is a John Illman and Sarah ?

bap. James 6 February 1825 at Nutfield Surrey * CORRECTED James not John
bap. Rebecca 18 March 1827     ditto
Both have abode of South Hale
I could only find the two children, so it's possible Sarah his wife died young.
-------------------
John the father is old enough to be the son of John and Sarah of Burstow they had 10 children found so far.
John 1806 *  possible death 1864
William 1808- 1808
Benjamin 1809 military - to Canada married Susannah Watt, returned to Canada
Sarah 1811
Mary 1813 married William Kennard  1875
Jane 1815 married William Streatfield 1835
Elizabeth 1816  never married
Thomas 1818 married Elizabeth Scott 1854
Ann 1820 married Benjamin Bryant 1849
Charlotte 1823  died 1840 age 18.

So my James Illman is baptism - 6/2/1825 in Nutfield to parents John and Sarah - doesn't say occupation on bc but does say 'labourer' on mc. Died 28/9/1909 + Buried 4/10/1909 in Nutfield

married Caroline Lawrence 6/11/1847 in St Peter and St Paul Nutfield

That’s definite, but I’m struggling to prove which John and Sarah are his parents.

It could be these two that trish put -

Marriage 17 March 1805
Burstow, Surrey, England John ILLMAN to Sarah BROWN

SARAH Brown bapt 20 May 1787 St Nicholas, Charlwood
Parents BENJAMIN/JANE

That would make James the 11th child - the dates do fit.
On the 1851 Census James is married and living in Nutfield with family, so this could fit with Sarah widow living with Thomas and Susannah in Burstow…but it isn’t definite.

I would say it is very likely that is the right John/Sarah as Parents of James.

1841 Daug Rebecca is with them
1851 Sarah is with Son Thomas and Daug in Law Susannah wife of Benjamin.
