I'm interested in the history of Thomas Bearman, b1806, Bocking Essex, married Mary Bright in 1840. (He may be my great great grandfather)
In the 1841 census they appear to have 3 sons, but all born prior to their marriage, these being Henry b1828, Noah b1830, Jacob b1832, can anyone confirm this as I can't find any birth certificates for them.
Thomas's parents appear to be Richard Bearman, b 1766 and Joanna Little, b1774, married in 1801 at Writtle, Essex (from Parish records)
I would welcome any information on Richard's offspring and/or parentage.
I believe Thomas had a brother, possibly George Bearman, who preceeded him at the Rose and Crown, Bocking, although George was a Silk Weaver?
This is based on the fact that Thomas had a niece, Mary Ann Bearman, b 1837, who would then be George's daughter.
I see that the Bearman's of Bocking were extensively researched some years back (eg by kissimmee and cep) but I can't find a thread that deals with this particular line.

Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction regarding Thomas's wife and his parents- tricky isnt' it!
Also for finding Thomas's possible great grandparents, Jacob and Ann - is there any way I could confirm this?

Thank you so much for this, it seems that I had the wrong marrigae for Thomas, which suffolk*sue has sorted out.
Putting this together suggests that Jacob Bearman married Ann Rogers on 2 October 1759, and they had 2 sons, Noah and Jacob.
Thomas was son of Noah, and George was son of Jacob, making them cousins as you suggest. It would be interesting to find confirmation of this.
Also regarding Thomas's niece Mary Ann, I now have 2 brothers and 2 sisters of Thomas as her potential parents - which I'll check out.
I'm still unsure why I can't find birth/baptism certificates for Thomas's sons (Henry, Noah, Jacob)- appreciate any advice on this.
Many thanks once again - making real progress.

Hi again
Have tried to find this marriage using the ancestry.co.uk web site, but no luck. As it's all new to me maybe I'm not searching correctly, but would appreciate advice on where to find it!

No Birth or Marriage Certificates before 1837.
And registration was somewhat iffy for several years after this date.
Major source for records pre-1837 is Parish Church Registers.
Essex has pay-to-view registers at SEAX: http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/
They can be difficult to read.
Thomas Bearman marriage to Mary:
Sue has Mason
Boyd's Index has Maison
I have Maysent
So spelling was not standardized.

Found this in Bocking.
Mary Beerman born March 4th and baptised March 29th, 1712
daughter of William, no mother mentioned.
and
Mary Beerman bap. 2nd April, 1715 dau of Stephen, again no mother.

Thank you! Something to go on. Do you know if she had any siblings?
-
Hi. If your Mary is the 1712 one:
Father - William bap. 21/2/1686 (and his father was John. I found lots of children to John - I think that one john is the uncle and one the nephew)
Mother poss Jane Clark married 18/3/1704
Siblings - Jane bap. 27/9/1705,
Possibly George bap. 13/2/1725 and James bap. 29/10/1726
If she's the 1715 one,
Father - Stephen bap 2/5/1683, Stephen's possible siblings - John 15/10/1671, Mary 24/2/1691 Stephen's father: Thomas
Siblings - Stephen bap 27/9/1705, Thomas bap. 8/1709
It might be worth you taking out a subscription to Essex records? SEAX. You can buy 24 hours for five pounds, or a week, month or six months etc. Then you can go through all the Bocking and surrounding parishes for marriages, deaths and baptisms etc.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Hi - I am trying to discover the history of the Rose and Crown Public House in Bocking, Braintree Essex.
I have discovered that from 1851 until at least 1899 the pub was run by the Bearman family so I was very interested in this posting regarding the Bearman family pre 1841.
I would like to find out when the pub was built and who its first occupants where.
Looking forward to information anyone may have
