Title: Connolly and Kenny Marriage, 1898
Post by: FrankDJ on Sunday 16 December 12 20:35 GMT (UK)
How can I confirm that the marriage of those below did in fact occur and on what date? Family lore has it that these two persons married in Ireland. I found them in the referenced index.
From the Cicil REgistration Marriage Index 1845-1958
Patrick Connolly, marriage Jan-Feb-Mar 1898, Registration District- Castlereagh
Bridget Kenny, marriage Jan-Feb-Mar 1898, Registration District-Castlereagh
Both are on page 77, FHL Film 101259
Thanks for your assistance

www.groireland.ie  you can obtain the marriage cert from here.
I presume you have seen the family on the 1901/1911 census
www.nationalarchives.ie/census in Foughill Coolougher, Roscommon :)

If you are content with a photocopy of the marriage entry, you should clearly write, Castlereagh, Jan - Mar 1898, Volume 4 , page 77 on the application form. This will save GRO looking up the indexes and usually gets a small discount. It should cost just €4.

Many thanks for the two responses to my post. I have located the family in both the 1901 and 1911 census but try as I may, I cannot locate the District Electoral Division Coolougher on any map available to me nor can I locate the townland, Foughill. Could I be advised as to where these are located?
As to the marriage contract advice: I am in the USA and have no access to euros which is what the fee service is based on. The GRO web site does not seem to offer any alternative such as credit card. Any advice as to how to obtain a copy?
I would be greatly interested if one of these documents usually have added information as to for example, parents names of both the man and woman.
Thanks for your consideration.

You can pay by credit card. Go to the website link, and download and print off the application form. It has a section for credit card details. You then post or fax the form back to them.

Foughil is about 3 miles south of Castlerea on the R361. It is too small to appear on Google earth etc but you can see it on the maps attached to Griffiths Valuation. Use the slider bar in the top RHG corner of the map and you can switch between a contemporaneous 1850s map and a modern one.

Thanks for the good advice on how to obtain a marriage contract with a credit card. Ditto on the Griffiths valuation map and other interesting data. Tried to obtain a pic/image of the map showing the town as well as the land plots but no luck in that. Is is possible?

Have you tried getting the map to what you want and then control "print screen". The open up a word document and paste the screen into the word document. You can then change the size of the image.

Loughglynn is a village located between Castlerea & Ballaghadereen Roscommon.
If you google Loughglynn roscommon there is a good write up on the History, church etc. :)

There is a townland Cloonard and also a Cloonbard both are in the area of Castlereagh. You will find them on Google maps.

This is a link to the OSI maps online where you can see FOUGHIL (http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,563886,776183,4,10)
It is located on the R361 road just north of Trien near Castlerea

The area of Coolougher is also marked a little further north

You can also use the functions on the right of screen to view older maps that are available

A marriage record has been located for this marriage, thanks to all who posted help. This couple was married in 1898 in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Loughlynn. After searching all records I could come up with, it seems that a new church is built on the site of this chapel, with a name like " Our Lady of Good Counsel". Does anyone know how or where to obtain a photo of the old chapel and a photo of the new church? Thanks for your assistance.
