Hi All,
Phillimores record of this sad occaision has a newspaper transcript which looks like Sarah`s age was 20 and I am wondering if any other records, as it was by licence, would clarify that.
I am looking for a Sarah who from IGI baptism record would be about 25 or 26 in 1807

Hi
Both the Phillimore's and the Marriage licence give his name as Cook not Clarke.
The Notts FHS CD states Barlow.
Robert Barlow Cook, Labourer, 21 and Sarah Sandaver spin, 21 both of Southwell. John Sandaver, gardener of the same place was bondsman.
Sometime the age means 21 or over

You can view the marriage bond at the Nottingham Archives - here is a link to the catalog (http://nawcat.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqServer=AP266-0029&dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqPos=1&dsqSearch=%28%28text%29%3D%27robert%20barlow%20cook%27%29)
"Marriage bond and allegation of Robert Barlow Cook of Southwell, labourer, aged 21 and upwards, and Sarah Sandaver of Southwell, aged 21 and upwards"
document reference: SC/8/5/1781
It probably won't contain any more information than that I'm afraid.
My great grandmother was a Cook from Southwell, so I have done a lot of research from Cooks in the area, though no known connection to Robert Barlow Cook. As it was an unusual case I did a bit of research into him. I do remember that there is an administration bond for Robert Barlow Cook shortly after he died, but I don't have any of the details. I remember it was quite complicated with him dying on his wedding day, before the marriage was fully solemnized.
I have the parish register entry in full in my Cook notes:
Robert Barlow Cook of this Parish & Sarah Sandaver of this Parish were married in this church by License this 2nd Day of April in the Year of our Lord 1807 By me H. Houson Parish Vicar
This marriage was solemnized between us [no signatures]
In the Presence of us [no signatures]
According to one account I read, Robert died just before he was going to sign the register.

Thanks both for your replies.
Sorry about the wrong surname, so many names going round my head at present!
I will check the Licence bond, but as you say it probably wont reveal any more
As the licence states 21 or over I wonder if what looks like 20 in the newspaper transcript on Phillimores could be 26 or some other number.
I will need to see if any newspapers are available at the Archives with articles about them
Alexander, as you have investigated the Cooks, there is a marriage in 1809 between Thomas Cook and Sarah Cook, could this be the above former Sarah Sandaver marrying again?

Hi Chris,
I think you're right about a second marriage though the parish register itself is inconclusive. It doesn't say whether she was a widow or not, but I think the name of their second child more or less gives it away. ;)
Thomas Cook & Sarah Cook both of this Parish were Married in this Church by Banns the 5th Day of October 1809 By me H. Houson Parish Vicar
This Marriage was solemnized between us Thomas Cook X his mark

Southwell baptisms - Children of Thomas & Sarah Cook:
31 Mar 1810 - Elizabeth
31 May 1811 - Robert Barlow

13 Dec 1815 - Thomas
20 Jan 1818 - Jemima
27 Oct 1819 - William
28 Oct 1820 - Edward
8 May 1822 - James
Thomas was a "Blacksmith" on Ann's baptism and a "Stockingmaker" on all the rest.
Sarah's age on the censuses and death is about perfect for the Sarah "Sandiforth" (bap 1782) whom I assume you are searching for.

Sarah Cook, 55, Y
Henry Cook, 25, Stocking Maker, Y
Thomas Cook, 25, Ag Lab, Y

Henry Cooke, Son, U, 36, Frame work Knitter, Nottinghamshire Southwell
Thomas Cooke, Son, U, 35, Agricultural Lab, Nottinghamshire Southwell
William Cooke, Son, U, 31, Agricultural Lab, Nottinghamshire Southwell
Sarah was buried at the Southwell Minster on 7 Jul 1858 (age 74), and Thomas on 1 Jul 1876 (age 88).
Thomas remarried after Sarah's death - you can find him on the 1861/71 censuses. His second marriage:
Southwell Minster - 10 Oct 1863 by Banns
Thomas Cooke, full age, Widower, F.W.K., of Southwell, father: William Cooke, Labourer
Rebecca Wells, full age, Widow, of Southwell, father: Henry Revill, Labourer
Signed: Thomas Cook (X his mark), Rebecca Wells (X her mark)
Witnesses: George Cook, Hannah Cook (X her mark)
I could prattle on all day about the Cooks, but I think I'll leave it there for now. :D

I've just remembered from previous correspondence that the moderator of this board, "Chris in 1066Land", is (I think) directly descended from this Thomas & Sarah Cook.

Might be worth getting in touch?

Hi Folks
It would appear from my family tree that Thomas and Sarah Cook are my grt grt grt grandparents, and Robert Barlow Cook born c.1811 and who married Ann??? is the eldest of 5 children that i have to that couple.
I have not followed that line in great depth other than as far as William, the father of the said Thomas.
So therefore Robert Barlow is my grt grt GrandUncle
